$92! Did that include the Vaseline?

I paid $25 for a kit from NAPA, included all necessary gaskets and the accelerator pump diaphragm. Kit was for '79-85 carbs.

I can see $92 IF the kit came with goodies like replacement solenoids, new jets, new emulsion tubes, new accelerator squirter block, etc. I haven't seen a rebuild kit that comprehensive, though, and 99% of the time you don't need that stuff anyway, just taer the carb down, soak it thoroughly in carb cleaner (like, for a couple days!) and spend a lot of quality time with toothpicks and compressed air to clean passages and jets out.

Usually carbs need rebuilt because the zillion little jets and orifices gunk up over time, and the gaskets shrink causing them to block some passages or open others to things they shouldn't be open to.

You can easily get rid of your rats nest withous adverse affects. well besides a decel backfire. but those are cool. I can provide instructions on how to do this if you like.

Please please please post instructions for rats nest removal... I am going to be going through this next week. I had to order new water pump gaskets from Mazdatrix as mine were shot so I thought while I was waiting why not take the carb off, clean it up and have the intake manifold ported and polished with the help of a flow bench?

I want to remove anything that is not needed, I already have the exhaust replaced with RB long primary system, so I'm not really looking for emissions control.

My problem has been that no one really has a clear answer as to what is safe to take off, they just say take it all off but keep the vacum advance...

I would feel better with a little more detail.

I'll help

I have a carb stock with manifold and a K&N filtercharger with smaller lid for higher airflow I'll sell ya. The carb runs perfect, I just removed it to install my dual weber 36DCD setup last week.

Carb alone 50.00, with filter charger and air cleaner 75.00, with manifold and all, 100.00.
