Carb questions, 79 streetport 12a w/ Racing Beat package
Hello everyone and thanks for reading my first thread.
I recently purchased a 79 rx7 from the original owner who used to race them profesisonally. It was rebuilt and street ported by Atkins back in the 80s and still runs great. It has the full Racing Beat package including the "racing beat modified" Holley carb, intake mani, air filter, and header for street ported 12a's along with some other goodies that aren't relevant.
I just paid to have the carb rebuilt by a reputable chevy v8 guy. He returned the carb to me, but when I went to install it there were some things that didn't quite line up like they did before.
Can anyone here show me a good picture of the same set up, maybe up close on the carb please?
Also, he told me the only difference between the "racing beat modified" carb and a factory Holley carb is that the racing beat one didnt have a power valve and had it blocked off instead. So he went ahead and put the power valve back in it.
Can anyone tell me why this would have been done and if I should block it off again or leave it in there?
Thanks a lot

I can't answer your questions, never having had the RB Holley setup.
I will comment that having a Chevy guy rebuild your Holley carb that was
engineered by RB was not a great idea
I have the RB Dellorto setup and they did do a number of small but vital changes
to make it work well with a rotary. I'm sure the same holds true for their holley
setup.

If the power valve was put back in then he needed to go down about 4-6 sizes with the jets to make every thing work proper ( you should ask him if he did )but should not effect how things fit why don't you take a picture of yours and let us have a look at it ..

welcome to the board.

i think this would be better than waiting for someone with a Holley to post photos. if the pieces that you can't get to fit are general, you might get help based on general knowledge instead of having to wait.

yes and yes to these responses. in the future, you should probably take the time to find someone that can incorporate the knowledge of how parts work in a rotary application because as you're learning now, small differences exist, but they can possibly lead to big problems.

see if there's anything here u can use/see.

if not let me know what specific pix u need. if the throttle plate had excessive shaft play he probably replaced it. i have never seen a replacement throttle plate that is like the one on the RB holleys. they all have vac ports that the one from RB doesn't have. the throttle attachment is also different between them.

here is where i'm confused. Those two lines not hooked up seem to line up to that first nipple (which is too big for the line to fit over now) and the blocked off part. Any suggestions? thanks

that hose with the angle cut end looks like it goes to the dizzy. if it does, it should be connected to that nipple on the side of the metering block on the carb. the clear looking lines go to the oil metering pump. the rb carb i have has a nipple that's threaded into the site plug on the primary float bowl. that's where the omp lines connect to. refer back to the link i posted for pics of how all that is done.

Can anyone show me a pic of the Oil metering rod, and how it connects to the RB set up? Putting mine together today, with a used set up and missing several pieces apparently.
Went to the local race shop because they specialize in Holley's...but he's clueless to rotaries...so I'm on my own! Thanks!
