Carb Q's, mods and secondary RPM's

Couple Q's- I spoke with a gentleman at the airport the other day who complemented my '82 GSL, and mentioned to me that he used to race an '85. He mentioned that if I did not want to spend the cash on a new intake right away, that there wsa several emission items on the stock Nikki that I could remove myself to help flow, etc. Is that true?

Also-how can I tell when my secondaries are opening? May be a stupid Question, but it looks to me as if they are open all the time...hmmmm....

open all the time? highly dubious ... it would probably give you a hell of a time just starting the engine.

as far as what you should remove ... it all comes down to how much you understand and how handy you are with a wrench. it's a matter of dismantling all the emissions crap (a.k.a the infamous rat's nest) and all the ancillaries that run between the intake and exhaust systems) do a search and see if you'd mind tackling the task.

also, check out the archives and there's a thread in there by Sterling ... "carb crap and other mods" (or something to that end) ...

at any rate ... my advice would be to start with the exhaust, then move to the carbie.

Mucho thanks to Carl and Pratch for the tutorial... I'm thinking of doing it myself, since the carb's out already, but I'd really like someone to keep in contact with who'se done it, incase I run into trouble, either of you guys mind MSN or ICQ (or even e-mail) contact with a guy who'se rebuilding and re-installing his stock nikki and taking off the rats nest in one fell swoop? Carl, Pratch? you guys would be ideal.

PM me I love this forum, and the Rx is probably the best car I could have ever gotten

PS: you know the Rx symbol the doctors use for perscription? I'm thinking that with a 7, and the sub-title "Just what the doctor ordered" for a t-shirt :P a little corny, but then again, so am I.
