Sold my Rx-7.
Well, after 3 years of hard work and $$$ she's gone. And I'm not ashamed to say it almost brought a tear to my eye to see it drive off.
I'm not completely sure what I'm getting now but here's a little hint. There's a good chance it might have something to do with my avitar and the term "20B".

It's a pity, your car was sweet. But since you got a fair deal and we all know that you won't stray from the call of the rotors, it's nothing to stress over. Good luck finding the next project.

I know what you mean. My friend got rid of a stripped RX-7 yesterday and honestly, I felt depressed about it all day long. Well, fill that void with something good! I know I will (with a 4port 13B that needs me to give it an extend port job)
Did you leave your direct fire ignition in the car when you sold it? Speaking of which, if you get a 20B powered JC Cosmo (man that would be cool!), could you tell me if its direct fire ignition system has the same 0º and 180º sparks as DLIDFIS, MSD, and all stock FC and FD ignitions used on two rotor engines? My thinking is Mazda just had a single spark per Leading plug because 0/180 would have been too comlicated, especially since the rotors are 120º apart. Anyway, feel free to PM me.

Just put a deposit on a nice 20B Cosmo! It's a Type E which is the next one down from the top of the line E-CCS. The only difference is it doesn't have the leather trim, nav system or touch screen. Also comes with genuine 18" AME rims.
I'll get some pics as soon as I get it home. Then it's just a matter doing the compliance and getting it on the road.
PS It goes like a bloody rocket when the second turbo kicks in.

Giddyup!
Throw a timing light on it when you get a chance. Try to notice if it's flashing quickly like on a Leading plug on our direct fire two rotor engines, or half as often like on a Trailing plug. Or better yet, rotate the engine by hand so the timing mark is 180º away from the little timing pin on the front cover and mark it with some white-out or whatever. Then fire it up and put the light on each Leading plug. I bet L1 won't show the mark you made because 20Bs don't run 0/180 sparks. Hooking to L2 or L3 may make it partially visible when you rev it up as the advance kicks in, but it'll still be far away from the timing pin, I'm thinkin'.
Man, the suspense (and jealousy) is (are) killing me!

Jeff, I'll let you know once I actually get the car. Have to organize a few things for the compliance first so hopefully within a week or two.

I thought of a super fast way to check for 0 and 180 sparks on your 20B. Just hook the timing light to a Trailing plug wire and let your eyes get used to the amount of flashes at idle. Then put it on a Leading wire and see if it's still the same amount. If so, then single Leading sparks per rotor face (as I suspect). If it's twice a smany sparks, well then I'll just have to keep the stock ECU when I get a 20B (not! My 0/180spark dizzy ought to be all I need).
Sorry to be such a dork about this, but I'm dying to find out how the Leading ignition works on a 20B.

aww man - sorry to see it go REVHED, but i guess you can feel good that you kept it in the bloodline. yours was one of the nicest cars that i've seen ... period!
congrats on your new purchase and can't wait to see the pics. what color is it? given your apparent attention to details, i'll expect that your Cosmo will be nothing short of sweet (like your Rx-7).

Hey thanks mate.
The Cosmo's metallic blue. It's actually a Type S not the Type E as I said before. This suits me fine as it's somewhat lighter and has stiffer suspension.
Don't know how long I'll keep it for though because I do prefer smaller cars. I'm trying to convince my dad to buy it from me later on so I can still take it for a strap every now and then.

Umm, where do you live REVHED? Are you in the states? Just curious- since I have never seen a Cosmo here, and didn't realise they could pass emmisions/// OH WAIT! That new law that allows special cars to be imported for show- that's it, right?
Oh well. But choice- the Cosmo is one of the best designs to ever come out of Japan- definitly shows its Italian styling roots:
and it has held up very well to the test of time. How many other sport luxury coupes of this era look even half this good today?
