Carb is off....now what?

Ok, so I tore the carb off today and looks like I am going to try to rebuild it. Both bowls were completely full and the bottom of the bowls were full of all kinds of crap. I am guessing that the bowls were not shutting off and that is why I was gettting loads of gas pouring out.
I hope my attempts at rebuilding it are successful. I never took of the very lower part just the top 2 parts of the carb. Do I need to remove the lower part to do the rebuild properly, because I think my problems lie in the upper portion. What kind of kit do I get....just a rebuild for an 83 carb, or are there different types?

Hi. Theres 3 main sections to the carb. The airhorn, the main body and the throttle body. You should seperate all 3. Be careful and take notes and pics if possible as you dis assemble it. Get a rebuild kit (GP sorenson 96-555/ Standard 1556 are the best). They run about 35-40$ USD. Search this section, theres threads on here with helpful hints, mostly by Sterling, that banana hating ****!

So I will need to have the throttle body when doing the rebuild?
I have been reading through ALOT of the old threads in the search section, and they are very usefull.
It seams that a rebuild can be very tricky but I am going to give it a try! I will be asking alot more questions I am sure.
Thanks again for all your help guys, you have helped me out alot so far.

Yes, seperate the throttle body from the main body. Good luck, and ask away any questions.
