The Carb Is Off!!

So here were my issues.......difficult time starting, pouring gass down the carb would start her up.....and loss of power above 4K. So i took the carb off...

I tilted the carb and played with the throttle..i can see the secondary linkage activate the spring...now should the secondary flaps open up with the throttle fully engaged??

I have some pics at no throttle half throttle and full

And for the no start, should i take the jets out (remembering where they were) and clean them with air??

Also, could someone tell me what the thing is i circled in the pic??

You can normally open them by hand with no vacuum (pull the throttle, then turn the secondary shaft), but they won't open just in response to the throttle cable link without vacuum.

Circled item is the vacuum actuator link for the secondaries. withthe primaries at WOT, you should be able to move that by hand (with some vacuum resistance) and open the secondaries.

Probably wouldn't contribute to a no start condition. Down in the bottom of the fuel bowls, screwed in to the side wall, you will find the fuel jets. Remove those, and make sure that they are nice and clean. Then, procede with a rebuild. The kits are only about 30 bucks, and it will be worth the effort.

Also, lots of reading material on these carbs, and how to adjust them to run correctly, can be found over at www.sterlingmetalworks.com

Good luck...

If you decide to rebuild. I like to soak the parts overnight in Gunk cold parts cleaner in some foil basting pans. I have some pictures here.

& remember Sterling's Law: don't monkey with your float levels unless you KNOW something was wrong with them!
