Well i did this mod

http://www.nellump.net/peri/epi/firs.../carbMods.html

where you take the spring totally out of the solenoid. Very easy process, took me maybe 10 minutes. Didnt work at first after putting it together because i didnt put a vacum line back on and i freaked out. But now that its all together. OMG its such a huge differnt, i feel way more power on low rpms and more on highs too. Even riding at 30mph in 3rd, and opening the throttle, it put me in my seat. Its a very awesome mod todo, allthough i went on the interstate, and let it wide open, HUGE differnt, i mean huge, but now i can tell i get like 7 miles to the gallon. Even when i go from 1st to 2nd it rips the tires lots more. even third.... Good mod to try if u aint poor and can keep ur tank filled. =P its for the 4 barrell nikkii.. Just wanted to let yall know the results.. Questions? Read tah Site or ask here..

A couple of years ago I shortened the spring with some tape, so I could put it back to the original length. Performance was great, but gas mileage was about 12 MPG. I figured it was due to me trying out the new performance. So I tried a week of conservative driving. My daily commute is about 15 miles of flat land with a couple of traffic lights, 55 MPH speed limit, and moderate police enforcement. Still got 12 MPG. I returned the spring to its original length. Went back to 20 MPG.

This is an easy, reversable mod for those that want performance for a little while. Don't drop the screws for the cover.

And to really be slick, how about a solenoid valve to vent the vacuum, and a short spring or no spring. Solenoid venting=economy mode. Solenoid closed=performance. Put a switch on the dash, or under the seat.
