Unhappy what's going on????????????????

1985 GS, engine is stock,70k on the clock. daily driver, starts ok . when cold if you behave and dont floor it ,all is ok . At 4000 in first gear it wants to dog out, in second same thing, it will dog out, pull over and let it idel and then ease up to 55 in third at 4000 and it dogs out , feels like its running out of gas,fp is 3.5 psi.new filter. at 70 in 5th and it does it again . any of you evil genuises have any ideas, also if you goose it at a light it is apt to die, pump three times and starts.?????? However if you don't push it hard in any gear up to 4000 it is ok. I am not a racer or hot rodder , just want to get rid of the hassle. Bob

I'm not too big on carbs and stuff but sounds like the secondaries are not opening.

does sound like your secondaries aren't opening, but you mihgt not be getting enough fuel at high rpms.

Perhaps a clogged catalytic convertor?

I doubt it has anything to do with the secondaries, my car has no trouble getting up to highway speed on just the primary bores, it's just slow.

Check those cats out, that's where my money is.

Yea, sounds like either clogged cats, or a fuel delivery problem. Do a test. Drive it, and when it dogs out on you, pull over and shut it off on reasonably level ground. Pop the hood and check the float levels. See if they are low.
