Carb Help

Ok I have done the mechanical secondaries mod and I can def see a verry noticable power increse. The only prob is at idel the carb starts to flood, dunno why but it does I have tryed to adjust the air/fule % but nothing also tryed the engine idel and still nothing. How can I check if the secondaries are opening w/o the mod? they open at 4g right? driving the car be4 the ziptie was added felt slow, after i put a ziptie on it seems much faster like the mechanical secondaries were not opening. Could the ziptie be holding something open that shouldnt be due to the thickness of the ziptie? I wanna try and get this to the track tomorrow afternoon but I need help. I just had the carb rebuild (maybe 600miles ago) by a goof friend of the family and im sure he did it right.

Any help would be great, like I said I wanna track test it tomorrow, smoke some more hondas

the vacuum operated secondaries will open around 4k rpm yes, but under load. You won't see them opening with the car stopped by simply increasing the engine's rpm.

With the engine off, look down into the carb and make sure that the secondaries are not propped open a bit. Maybe the linkage is not allowing it to close fully with the mod. I used a piece of thin mechanic's wire to tie the linkage when I did mine. Good luck...

yeah what he says. I like for the secondaries to open at about half throttle, definitely not when you start to press the accelerator pedal.

Did the car run fine before, or has it had this problem since the fuel pump was replaced?
If it is an aftermarket pump, it needs a pressure regulator.
And the "cut out" sounds like the accelerator pump needs to be adjusted.

Your mech secondaries arent related to the flooding. Check your fuel pressure. The cutting out is probably your accelerator pump. Check that it squrits as soon as the throttle moves. Any delay causes a stumble.

Check the secondaries? Easy drive it, then disconnect the little link from the vacuum box and drive it again.

No name, do a search. Theres a bunch of old threads with pics. 82transam and mar3 come to mind IIRC. Its not difficult.

Yeah I think it my fuel pump that is on the car. It was installed befor i got it. The car drove fine be4 but while I was changing the fuel filter i noticed a "fold" in the fuel line so i unfolded it and then it started flooding. I guess ill get a FPR tomorrow.

Hmm, maybe that fold was just enough restriction to keep the pressure at the right level. Can you tell if it is a stock pump, or aftermarket? It's starting to sound like you have a fuel pressure regulator in your future...

how necessary is it to have a fuel pressure regualtor with an aftermarket fuel pump? Isnt that what the gas return line from the carb is essentially for?

I cant tell if its stock or not, I have never seen a stock pump. Is the stock pump in or out of the tank? This one is out of the tank and is gold, ill look tomorrow and see the brand if I can. My local auto zone has a eldabroke (spelling) FPR will any one work? Or do I have to ask for anything special? I know I need to get one that will puss the PSI I need. I plan on turboing the car soon so ill look at the max psi be4 I buy. Also my damn gas guage doesnt work. any ideas on how to fix this?

Sounds like an aftermarket pump. Look for a regulator that will operate at 3psi.

Nope its gold colored, I went out and got a new fuel pump (maxes at 7psi), a FPR, and a FPG.

Going to install now, bbl to post if it helped or not. Im going to hook up the FPG to see what PSI is runing at now.

Yeah, I also got the regulator for the stock setting untill I turbo.

Well that was the prob, the guage read 6-8psi, since the FP is stronger than the one i got ill keep the one thats on there (yay I get some green backs.......back). Maybe ill spend it on some turbo parts.

does anything need to be done the the computer on a 83 12a? I dont see how since its carbed.
