Exclamation The carb from Hell

I need help. My carb is acting up..I changed the fuel filter, fuel pump and the problem is not fixed..everytime i take a curve and drop down to second gear it stalls for like 5-8 sec. i read on a text book that it could be my jets or the float chamber is off and not adjusted right and it's catching to much fuel..can some out there help me

it stalls when you go around a corner and you are giving it gas via the accelerator pedal correct? i would guess it would happen in other gears in addition to second?... what about different amounts of gas in the tank, does that change anything??

let say that your riding around your subdivision and you are on 3rd gear and you want to take a right on street thats comming up..you drop down to second and "bang" you stall turning the curve. I always put the clutch back in and give a little bit of gas and it will unstall it's self. It's very annoying and especailly when you are trying to leave a neon or honda civic behind eating your dust and decides to stall at a curve while you are droping gears

so, its only running out of gas around a curve, with the clutch pushed in. ok, and if you give it gas, its fine correct? have you taken the top of the carb off and adjusted the floats? does your problem vary depending o the level of gas you have in the tank?

a carb rebuild would be best, imo. it certainly couldnt hurt. i was having a horrid hesitation problems and i tried everything except for a carb rebuild. i broke down and rebuilt the carb. it took about two hours from start to finish. it fixed all of my problems. i would suggest that and go from there. you can pull the top of the carb and check the float levels and reset them if need be before you rebuild the carb.

Don't touch the carb yet...

You mentioned that you replaced the fuel pump. What did you use?

Also, after it stumbles in the turn, when it starts getting power again are you seeing any smoke? Chances are, you are flooding rather than starving. If you used an aftermarket fuel pump, then you will need a fuel pressure regulator to keep it from shoving too much gas down the carb.

With my setup, if my pressure is adjusted too high then I'll bog out in left handers while autocrossing. A little adjustment of the fpr takes care of it. Not sure if this will apply to you, but thought I'd throw it out there before you rip the carb apart. Good luck!

yeah, you'll need a fpr to go with it.

the mallory is 6psi, and no the holley kit is on back order at RB right now.

Edit: Just ordered the regulator so I am not super screwed when my intake comes in.

yep, you will be fine with 6 psi when you get the holley in but you need the fpr until then for sure
