Ok, I see what you mean. Thanks 84stock. What purpose would this bridge have though. Not sure on the logic of it.

Ok, out of curiosity I had a look at the base of my carb, and it seems edelbrock had thought about that bridge already. There is a 1/4" deep passage cast into the carb base that connects the 2 primary barrels together. Here is a pic. Would this passage essentially be what you guys are talking about?

Thats good. I just got the intake and carb back on the engine, so I'll know in the next 15 min or so if there is any difference.

Ok, good news and bad news. It seems that the machine work I did has worked. The bad news is that there seems to be something wrong with the idle circuit on the front rotor. It runs on 1 rotor only at idle, and it actually runs alright. If I get it above 2000rpm it smooths out and runs on both rotors, meaning there is something wrong with the idle circuit. Before you ask if this could have been the problem before, it wasn't. The mixture screw for that rotor changed the mixture before without a problem, but now it does nothing. I can cut the fuel right off at idle and it won't do a thing. But it looks promising overall. If I can get the front rotor running like the rear is it will idle smoother than the original 12a did.

Figured I'd bring this back up as I'm just getting ready to put everything back together. I cleaned the carb completely, then ran into a problem getting the proper gaskets. It was either just the base gasket and top gasket or a whole rebuild kit at first, but the speedshop said they would try to find just a gasket kit. It took a week and a half to get the gaskets in. Then when I got to putting it back together, I accidentally dropped the carb top and broke one of the float pivots off. Fixed that with JB weld and its good to go. Just got the floats set again and getting ready to put the top on the carb. I'll see how it all goes tomorrow.

SUCCESS!!! I found the problem. Turns out I had a huge vacuum leak around the primary port on the front rotor. Its because of the way I made my gasket. I made another one and I still have a little leak around that area. Damn this intake mani, the porting the past owner did on it is comming into play again. I'm cutting my gaskets according to the mani, and if its not right on perfect, it doesn't seal. Thats how close they cut it! I'll be ordering a new gasket from Mazdatrix and it should be good.

Alright, got the gasket all fixed up. She runs like a champ now. Timing is right on, holds a nice solid idle at 800rpm. I haven't heard a nicer running engine in a long time.

I just got the vid downloaded to my comp when i had to go to work. Will probably get it on youtube tomorrow and post a link here. It gives details of a lot of the work i have done so far, but not nearly all. I could spend probably 10 minutes just on video explaining everything i have done to the car.

Here is the link to the vid.

You'll probably have to wait a few minutes or hours to be able to see it.

Oh yeah, thats the part about that paceshitter header. How its a piece of **** and everything. Well, it is. Rusted all to hell, doesn't perform worth a **** on a collected system, but it is built out of pretty thick metal.

But what do you mean about the startup? The shitty sound of those mufflers or sumthing?

Yeah, she starts up real easily. All I have to do is press down on the gas a tiny bit and start it. Because of the lightweight flywheel it just jumps up to 2000rpm like nothing. Its going to be a blast to drive.

Yes, I got a chance to drive it around the block. Won't go any further as the car doesn't have up to date license plates (they aren't even registered to the car) and I have no insurance on it. The carb is tuned alright for normal driving, but stumbles when pushed, it needs a LOT of tuning yet.

As for the lightweight flywheel, it does make a big difference. The engine just revs much easier. When you compare the actual weights of the flywheel compared to stock, there is only a 5 or 6 lb difference between the two. The real difference is where the weight is located. On a stocker there is a lot of weight close to the outside, whereas on the lightweight one its mostly close to the center. If you understand engineering and whatnot, you would understand why this is true. Its basically centrifugal force, which is actually an imaginary force linked with moment of inertia. The further the mass is from the center of rotation, the more energy it takes to accelerate and deccelerate that mass.
