carb flooding

83gsl
Nikki carb
Rats nest removed
headers and pipes
electric fuel pump (ghetto)

all done in nov and then sat through most of the winter. Drove it around yesterday and....

the problem is that the carb barrels will fill up with fuel after I have turned off the car after a nice hour of hard driving. fuel comes out of the jets at a rate of about .5 teaspoon in 15 seconds. Then it slows down and stops.
floats stuck?
poltergiest?

the fuel pump isnt turning off, that or maybe a bad float. think it may be the pump though.

I think it is the float. The pump should be able to pump all it wants without flood ing the carb. Check the floats.

I had/have the same problem. Ive heard that it could be the fuel return solenoid, im not to sure if this could even be a problem....

But if it was the floats....then it should be putting constant fuel in the barrels well running. And if the fuel pump isnt shutting off you should be able to tell....turn the car off and listen for a whine.

I guess.....to check the return solinoid i guess you could pull the return line off and then turn the car off... see if it poors out the gas.........:S:S just my POV

Kidd is right...Your fuel pump may not be shutting down, or you're running 10 PSI of pressure.

Do you have a cut out? Sometimes I have this problem, I will kill the pump and let the car run off of the residual pressure for a few seconds. Problem solved..

I had a similar problem, and found that the voltage regulator fuse had blown. When I replaced the fuse, flooding went away! Can't explain it...

Bowl vent solenoid hooked up? Is the new pump pushing too much pressure for your application? You might need a pressure regulator...

as for the solinoid, i don't know where that is
I was talking with a boinger and he thinks its the floats

The solenoid I reffered to is located on the driver's side of the carb (right behind the alternator) and has a single wire coming out of it. That must be plugged in...
