Carb flooding
Our 85 RX7 floods when you pull the choke out. The carburetor is off of an 80 RX7. It would be nice to not have to hold the gas pedal in the morning. How do we fix this? Thanks.

I have an 83 but I think they are pretty close to the same, anyway heres what i did, where the gas cable linkage hooks on to the carb there should be 2 nuts holding in on, you can set these out a bit to always give it a little more gas then it will keep it running with out haveing to hold the peddle down.
hope that helps

Not sure what you mean by floods, as that means too much gas flooding engine ? I suspect you mean engine dies? I would start with taking the air cleaner cover off & looking to see if the choke butterfly is closeing? if choke seems to be working then suspect your carb is out of adjustment/needs work or you have a vacum leak? You can try adjusting the mixture, warm engine up fully, then turn clockwise until engine starts to die. Then back off about 1/4-1/2 turn.

it depends if it is a california carb or not. if it is not then you should see 2 screws on the left (drivers) side of the carb. the one closest to the firewall should be your mixture if im not mistaken and the one nearest the radiator should me your idle speed.
california carb only has 1 visible screw. i cant find my cap to adjust mine yet.....its frustrating.

That shouldnt change anything. Dont mess with the idle screws. What happens if you dont pull the choke all the way out? Like maybe a 1/4 of the way? You should only use enough to make it run during warmup. And after warmup its fine I assume?

if i pull the choke out all the way, it either starts to flood or cut out. I am not sure how to tell. Sometimes it runs smooth at half-chock, sometimes it doesn't.

It sounds like your choke isint functioning right. Try this, with the car cold, get it started with the choke out however far it will stay running with. Then remove the top off the airbox so you can see the choke plate. Either have someone operate the throttle, or manually do it at the carb. When the engine revs up, the choke plate should crack open as the RPM's increase. If it doesnt move, thats your problem.
