Carb Choices

I am definently a noob when it comes to carbs.

If I replace my nikki with a weber 45 DCOE, how long would it take? Also, what kind of $$$$$ are we looking at? Also, what is the difference between that and a 48 IDA? Since these are 2 barrel, how is it different than a 4 barrel? Is there a secondary?

Next, if I were to add a Holley carb (600, double pumper, etc.) how long would it take? How much would it cost and since it is a 4 barell, how does it differ in driving compared to a 2 barell?

Can two barell and four barell supply the same amount of power?

Thanks

How long would it take? What putting it on your engine? If that is the question, not long. Also depends on how much crap you need to take off first. Go to RacingBeat.com they will have all the prices you are looking for.

I think 2 and 4 barrels can supply the same amount of power, just different feelings on the powerband. With the Webber you wont feel the secondary's kick in, just a steady flow of power.

Webbers cost more than the Holley, but more people use the webbers. The higher the number of the webber the more fuel it will flow. No secondary on Webbers.

I THINK, the holley's need more tuning than the webber?

I also think, that the Holley is better on gas mileage since you are working mainly on the smaller primaries when street driving, unless your foot is heavy!

hmm, don';t know how long it would take, but check otu mazdatrix and racingbeat for webers and holleys. As far as how they drive, the weber, like most other 2 barrels, will probably have some degree of "stumble" if you open up the throttle quickly at low rpm's. This won;t happen to the same extent on most 4 barrels, due to the smaller primaries leading up to the secondaries. Then again, this is just things I've heard, and I'm no carb expert!
