carb choices
iv'e decided to stay carbed until i get out of college but the choices are near endless. first i've heard good things about the weber 45 dcoe setup from rb, but then i've also heard good things about using a 48ida. both are webers so which ones better? ill be using a mild street port by the way and a header with an exhaust. also i have a dellorto 40 drla downdraft carb sitting around collecting dust, is it too small to work? the rb one is 45mm and the 48ida is of course 48mm, so theres quite a big span in size there. any help would be great since the car wont be running for awhile. o yeah, is there a place to find a manifold for the dellorto if it will even work? and what about linkage for that one and for the 48ida? thanks.
if theres other options you feel are good paths to go down please share.

Yeah, shutup kid.
A holly 500 would be fine for a stock port or a street port. The kit racing beat sells for stock or stretport uses a 465 holley, so a 500 will defiantly be enough for it, and if you decide to go streetport later, you wont have to upgrade to a different carb to do it.

On the topic of carbs, what else would really have to be upgraded? Fuel pump? Still being a newbie to cars overall, this is a little confusing If i wanted to get a Holley 500-600 series, is it pretty much a bolt on application? Or do I have to get an upgraded manifold and air intake system. On racingbeat.com, they sell a holley 645 kit for $770 that looks pretty nice

if you buy teh carb and the intake seperatly (not the modded carb form RB) it will be a fair bit cheaper, BUT the RB holleys are soem mods doen to them to make them work a bti better with a rotary engine, i have heard of people using non modded holleys and having no problems. just sumthin to think about if ya wanna save some bling :]

I used a holley 600 from RB on my streetport 13b 4 port with great results. (shamless plug) BY THE WAY THE CARB AND MANIFOLD ARE FOR SALE! (/shameless plug) I recently found a 51 IDA Weber so I am using that now. Kind of overkill, but not when I finally go blowthrough.

If you want to go cheap, find a New cheap Holley. I found a 600 on ebay $150.
Get a metering block($50) to change out the secondaries, get small jets around 56-58
somewhere around there. You dont have to worry about a fuel pump and reg,
right away. You need 6psi for the Holley, but the stock usually pumps a steady 5psi.
Which is good enough(for now). Dont buy a Holley fuel pump, they are way over priced.
I have been told, you can get a universal fuel pump from discount auto for $25, which
will pump 9psi easily. I have, a non modified Holley I Got rid of the choke, put 57 jets in
the prim and sec and made the sec mechanical. That is on a stock port 12a.

what you need is a holly 600 double pump or even vacume secondaries.you don't have to go threw racing beat, there to expensive.you will need the intake for the carb.if you by a 600 double pump you will need to take off the choke, seal the metering pump and jet it.
you will also need the fuel pump and regulator from holley.you could use the stock pump but i wouldn't recomend it.if you just cruise your car all the time, stock is ok but if you don't go holley.you don't want to take a chance runing lean.if your going to do it, you should do it right from the begining!

the main thing is tuning!ive had diferent size carbs for different motors.size makes some difference but tuning is everything.on jeting the carb you should start low but they could high.i had a 650 on a 13b a non ported motor with 68 in primaries and 70 in secondaries.ive also had one in the past with the same set up with 58 in primaries and 61 sencondaries.every carb vary's.

yeah where can you get intakes for dellorto dhla's? i found a 48 dhla that was rebuilt recently and am wondering if a 48 is big enough for blow through turbo on a street port 12a? i already have the holley setup and could easily throw on bigger holley, but im exploring my options first.

Rollin' coal and 53mpg!
I've got a Weber 48IDA on my 13B 4port stock port...
throttle response is AWESOME.
However, mileage SUCKS. 6-8mpg is typical... even less if I get on it.
