Is this car worth getting?

I have a chance to pick up a 1984 (i think, the sticker on the window for the GTU championship says 1984) base model (drum brakes, 100hp) rx7. It's silver, has the bbs (?) alloys and 90,000 original well maintained miles. The car isn't in perceft shape but it's alright, it'll need paint for sure. They are asking 1200OBO but I was thinking if I were to buy it, I'd offer 1,000. The only thing I'm concerned about is that it is the base model and it would definately be slower than the car I have now. I don't NEED another car or anything and that's why I'm not sure if getting the base model would be the best idea. What do you guys think?

First off, every Rx7 is worth getting

All models, except for the GSL-SE had 100hp. Don't worry about it, 100hp is plenty, and a base model, whether it be the GS or S is definetly worth getting. Is it slower than the car you have now? Depends on what you have, but stock 7's are extremely fun as they are. BBS wheels didn't come standard on any 1st gen, so right there, you have some thing special.

Only the -SE has more power in the 1st gens... the GSL's are 100hp too.

BBS alloys... mesh rims?

Is the body straight and no rust?

FB's are not fast out of the box... but they have great "bones" for a hellishly fast car if you put the time and money into it.

Go for it, it definately sounds like a great platform!

The base models were faster than the higher up trim just because they weighed less. I dig it!

I guess they might not be the BBS ones, I just remembered some RX-7's had BBS wheels and these are mesh ones. Well I'll go take it for a spin and see what I think. If it's fun and everything checks out I'll probably be a new RX-7 club member.

Well I test drove the car. It's not what I'm looking for. It's slow, the steering was sloppy, and while the car is in good shape for how old it is, it's not really a nice place to be. Maybe an FD would be better haha.
