Car will not start (not the typical car won't start thread)

Ok, my injectors where leaking real bad because of the o-rings being old and worn out. I replaced the o-rings last week and I put everything back together. It should start back up right.....wrong. I assembled everything and turned it over. The car turned over and finally started up and then died. It hasn't started since. It is getting air, fuel, compression, and spark. It does seem like it is getting a little too much fuel though. I will turn the car over and then take them plugs out and they will be wet with fuel. I think the car is injecting too much gas for some reason. All the vacuum lines are hooked up properly and the injectors appear to be hooked up correct also.

I was wondering if my fuel pressure regulator at the fuel rail failed would it cause my problem?


In the past, before the injector o-rings were replaced, the car, when started, would run real rough at first sometimes. It sounded as though it was firing on one rotor, or half as much as it should. It would do this for a few seconds and then run normal.

I am stumped. Please help.

Classic case of flooding ...
Take the pluggs out, then heat the ends up a bit with a propain torshe, just to dry off all the crap that's there. After, with the spark pluggs out, turn the engine over a bit. you'll see stuff comming out the spark plug holes ( that's good ! ) . Replugg the plugs. Then, unplugg the gas pump, get it to start like that ... if that doesn't work, try a little oil in the lower spark plug hole of both rotors ( oil builds up compression ) . Once it turns over, let it run till it dies, when it does, replug the pump, start it up , let it warm up for a minute, do an oil change.

Should work fine If nthat's not the problem, try the 2nd gen section. You'll get more people in there that know about 13Bs then in here ( GOOO CARB GOO !! ) :P

One way to temporaliy turn off the fuel pump on '84-'85 cars is to disable the trailing ignition. I recommend unplugging the trailing T shaped connector over on the dizzy (it's the one closest to the alternator). Or you could unplug the trailing coil's negative terminal. Then crank the engine without plugs in it to blow all the wonderful stuff out. Then follow The Dude's directions.

When you turn the key to the on posistion listen for the fuel pump, if you hear it running before you start to crank, your afm has died. If it has to get it started you will need to do
what the above posts state and then start it with your foot all the way down to the floor.
To expalin this,if the fuel pump comes on before you start to induce air and compression, it will just soak the plugs. If you dont have this happening, test the coolant temp sensor, also
verify that you have the air intake hoses back together properly, this would cause a major
vacuum leak. rx7doctor
