Car weight: weighed my car at Flying J

If anyone is curious about how much their car really weighs this might give you a better idea of what your car weighs. I weighed my car flying jay today and got 2600lb. this includes me about 170lb, about 10L of fuel in the tank, and probably around 30Lb of miscilaenous stuff in the car. so in total the car's weight would be about 2390lb, which is quite a bit of a jump from the 2850 stated on the car.

I should mention that my car is a 1984 GSL, with 100% intact stock interior. The following list is what has been done to the car that would factor in the weight:

Rats Nest removed
Air pump
A/C removed (all engine bay parts not inside car)
SDJ headers, 2.5" piping ~ 9 feet long, Magnaflow muffler
Holley 465 Carb, and holley intake both from RB
Tokico Struts
Eibach springs

I think thats about it that I have done to the car. Just thought I'd share this so that you guys don't have to spend 10$ to get it done cause we all know how cheap this first gen community is .

On a side note, I got pulled over on the way back. The cop turned around from like 6 blocks away and started following me, once i turned into my street he pulls his cherry's. The reason that i got pulled over was because on my registration it says the car is brown even though it was beige. So he made me pop the hood and stuff to make sure that car wasn't repainted and stuff ... I think that he just wanted to pick on me. Stupid 50

For a comparison, my GSL-SE weighed 2640lbs with me in it when I had it weighed at the dump. I weigh 200lbs, so my weighs about 2440lbs. No mods except for a header.

WTF, the US doesn't even care what color your car is. The color of your car isn't even on the title information. How strange.

Interesting. I'm interested in seeing what my car will weigh. I hope I didn't move the weight to the back though. I've got so many custom things done on the car I don't know what to expect.

It does in some states. And the stock exhaust is over 100lbs you saved there. The cast mani is about 30-50lbs right there. and not to mention the cats. GAWD DAMN

The stock mani is only 25lb, and a header is about 15lb, so you only save about 10lb, hardly worth mentioning. To me, changes in the exhaust don't save much weight.

B6T:
The GSL-Se would probably may a few pounds more due to the engine being slightly wider and slightly higher oil capacity, but I don't know weither the stock carb and ratnest vs the intake monai which of the two would be lighter.

Candyassmiler:
Yes the color of the car is written down on the information with your license plates. Here in ontario (maybe it all canada too not sure), you have to go to the MTO and get your car color in there. I've never really bothered changing it because I didn't think i'd get puller over for a stupid reason like that.

riceburner1r2001:
Ya worth a little shiny niclke

85rotarypower:
The cool thing about the weight scale at flying J was that they actually have 3 scale (1 to weigh the front of the truck, one of trailer one, and another one if there's a third trailler). So for me I got my car 1/2 on one and half on another and it showed 1,300lb for both front and rear with me in the car which i think is pretty cool. I thought that my weight would offset it a little.

Also on a second note about the eshaut weight, i really have to disagree with you there, i think that you can probably save about a good 50lb or so from it, which to me does sound like quite a bit. Sure its not as radical as taking out all the interiour stuff that you don't need for instance, but it helps.

1985GSL:
Where did you weight your car? What have you stripped out of the engine bay? Also what year car and model do you have?

Another thing that i'm thinking here that would affect weigh by quite a bit, how much rust do you guys have on your cars , I redid my rear wheel wells with some thicker sheet metal and added some more metal 3/16" thick to support it more on the side.

Just posting for who ever is curious, if you want to kknow of all the mod on my car you'll have to go look through all my threads lol sorry. But say when ever i'm racing and i take out the spare tire and the passenger seat, I'm probably in at 2170 or so .. pretty light

As mentioned above, some states still do list the color of the car on the title and most of the states that don't anymore used to. I remember when the color was still listed on the title in Oregon. I don't know if it was ever an issue if your car didn't match the color on the title, but I'm guessing it's something from times way back when it wasn't very common for people to change the color of the car and was a good indicator that the car may have been stolen. The thing that doesn't make sense to me is why would the cop care if you had repainted your car? In Ontario do you have to report it if you repaint a car, or is it just a matter of when you renew your registration you just tell them it's a different color then?

Mine is a 85 GS, and comes in at 2440 with half a tank of gas and me (170 Lbs.) in it. Still have the full interior, which I'm not willing to sacrifice at this point.

Isn't the sticker weight the GVWR?
(can't get to mine to check just now)

GVWR = GROSS vehicle weight rating.

GVWR is vehicle loaded at max capacity, not the "dry" weight. Full tank, max pax and cargo.

After reading this thread I drove mine down to the truck scales down the street.

My 79 base model came out to 2280lbs, how accurate the scales are I do not know. Near full tank of gas, no driver.

Things that may add/remove weight
emissions removal(no air pump, no thermal reactor, no cat)
RB Header
Removed heater vent Fan(was dead)
It does have a back "seat"
13" Enkei Apache Rims if that makes a difference
Stock sunroof
Wrap around rear spoiler
1985 stock front spindles/brakes

my stock 83 limited edition, full tank of gas, no driver was 2330

i recall my gsl-se (RB exhaust, no ps) was 2540, also full tank no driver

the stock 79 GS (no a/c) is 2400

these cars are all stock including emissions, and interiors, except the SE which had the RB exhaust, recaro and some other stuff.

i always go to the scale with a full tank, because it repeatable like that. no driver, cause that changes too (ive lost 40lbs since i owned the 83!)

Thats correct, the 2805lbs listed on my 83 S would be with all fluids full, full to the max with passengers and cargo....
I keep meaning to get my cars weighed to compare, but never get the chance to....

good to know more weights to compare them too. So i'm not doing too shabby with 2240. i'm trying to convince my buddy who's got a rabbit to go on there for the sake of curiosity.

I used to know a guy who raced a 80's Rabbit in SCCA ITB class, a number of years ago.

They actually stripped the chassis completely bare and had it acid-bathed in order to lighten it.
