Car runs better with low float levels

I seem to have a stuck front float myself right now: is there a method if getting it unstuck without removing the carb? I suppose it is possible that the needle valve is jammed, I guess, but either way the level of fuel in the front float bowl is well above the lines in the sight glass...

A temporary fix is to hit the carb with a small hammer or something. That's what I did as you probably read in my posts above. It doesn't always fix the problem, and if it doesn't chance is you'll be taking the carb apart to fix it. I've gotten really good at taking the air horn off to fix the floats with the number of times I've had to remove it. It's not too hard if it comes to that.

Well if that's the case, make sure you avoid bending the tangs on the floats unless you have to. They take a while to get back in spec as using a caliper only gets you in the ball park. Check the needles and seats for wear and as long as they're halfway decent, keep them. While you have the air horn off you should also remove the seats and check the mesh filters that are either attached to the seats, or sitting right above them inside the top. If the seats are stuck, tap on them with a hammer and then use a large screw driver with a pair of vise grips attached as a handle. You do not want to strip the heads. Damage to the tangs or bent clips can also cause floats to stick. Good luck!
