well i finnaly got my car to run. at the end of last year it would just quit on at complete random. and wasn't gettin gas. sometimes after letting the fuel pump run it owuld start but sometimes it won't start at all! so we parked it early cleaned the tank put a rebuild kit in the carb. a few other things we checked that were ok such as points dis. i got the car out yesterday and it ran horrible. spittin and sputtering. hesitating. my 4 barrels won't open. we tunned the carb wen we put it back on and the car idels fine. does anyone have any info on wat the `cut and check valve is on the gas tank and it you 4 sure need it. i've been thinkin this is my gas trouble all along. so is there a way to bypasss this system or if you think you know we my car is runnin like *** please let me know

 

Hey your problem is probably the fuel pump itsself, but it is possible that it could be the check and cut valve. To check it take it off the tank, mark the hoses so you know how it goes back in. Then take an air flow guage and blow though it with an air compressor. You need to find a haynes manuel. It will tell you what the tolerances should be. I have one and I have personally done this check on mine, but Im too lazy to look it up for you.
