car running bad after new fuel filter

ok, so my buddies rx was running just fine and we were doing a full tune up on it. started with a fuel filter. once we got that on we headed to the parts store. immeadiatley the car is sputtering and backfiring. no power. pulled the filter off and noticed the inlet is too small. so went with a bigger one. still running shitty. put the original one back on. no change, even tried by-passing the filter all together and no luck.

so we pulled the weber apart blew everything out, cleaned the jets, checked the banjo bolt and floats. all checked out.

blew out fuel lines from tank to firewall. still nothing. totally out of ideas. please help.

car is idling very low. barley keeps itself going. has much less power, and is reving very slow in neutral.

almost feels like its only getting one rotor under load/revving with the occaisonal blip of the seccond rotor. but on idle they are both definitly firing well.

i am definitly getting enough fuel. did a volume and pressure test.

Sounds ignition related then?

May seem redundant, but have you checked your plugs, cap & rotor, etc.?

are both squirters shooting gas into the carb when you give it gas? check that.

do you mean the accelerator pump? if so i have confirmed that is working too.
and this happens either at sudden WOT or slowly gaining engine speed.

I'd check compression. Pull one of the trailing plugs and turn the engine over. You should get even strong whooshes. Replace and do the same with the other.

If it was running fine before the new fuel filter, then thoroughly retrace your steps. I'd bet money that you missed/messed up something so simple that when you find it you'll say "well duh".

i replaced everything exactly how it was.

the floats were a bit uneaven, but everything moved as it should. im not sure where they should be set.

im going to replace the cap+rotor today and see how it does. also will be checking compression. will post updates. keep the ideas coming. thanks a ton.

I'll never replace my fuel filter again!

Just kidding; glad to hear it wasn't as bad as you first thought.
