Car not running right?
Ok guys i got a 79' Rx7 5 speed. the car is a mess right now. doesn't ideal right. hesatation really bad, and it will just flat out quit goin down the road. it will start ok when it's cold then when it heats up it won't start again if you shut if off. i put a rebuild kit in the car but didn't seem to halp much. it hesitates terrible if you set the carb to ideal where it's suppose to at like 750-800 RPMS it will geta little better if you take it clear up to 1200 RPMs. then sometimes when your driving it will just loose power n shut off. also it seems like the car should have more power. i have no idea whats wrong with the car at this point so please let me knoe what you think may be wrong. i've thought about holly converstions for the car or wondered if it need rebuilt it has 88K on it and never been touched.

So how long was it sitting before you started driving it (assuming its a recent purchase?).
Sounds like classic gummed up fuel system. Changed the fuel filter yet? (in front of dr side rear wheel). If the car sat, incorrectly stored (little/no gas; no preservative added to fuel, etc) for extended periods (months +) it could be the gas tank innards have some rust and is shedding crap into the fuel lines, plugging the filter.
Typically in this case, car will start and idle, can drive for short distances, stalls and won;t restart unless it sits, then does it again. Worse when fuel level is low, better when tank is full...
If cleaning filter doesn't help (and assuming carb isn't in need of rebuild) then tank needs to be:
-drained (79 has no drain plug)
-pulled
-professional cleaned at rad shop: chem dunk and cleaning
-re-lined with fuel tank restoration kit like one sold by POR15.com
Been there - had to do this with my 1980 SA (same set up)

well it st for 7 years but i restoreod the car and we dropped the tank and cleaned it. to be sure we had most of it out we put a sediment bowel on and ran a few tanks of gas. it barely collected anything.
i have talked to a few people and they think that it may need rebuilt?

could be that, or it could be other tune up items (cap, rotor, plugs). Or, it could need the idle mixture to be adjusted. Hard to say. Best thing to do is all of the general maintenance things that you'll need to do anyway. Then you stand a good chance of fixing the issues without having to identify what they were.
You might also want to do some reading up on the carb, and how to adjust it. Check out the tuning section at www.sterlingmetalworks.com

yea i no what you mean i have put a new cap my old one was cracked for some reason even tho it was brand new. i really don't know what it is i mean it had new plugs and everything when we restored it 2 years ago. what happens when the apex seals go out. i was told it might be that. also i was thinkin about a new carb. but they are very expensive.

A sticking apex seal(s) can cause hard start symptoms, but I doubt you broke one just by letting it sit for a couple of years. Good chance it could be sticky though, which is why I recommended the Seafoam.
A carb rebuild kit goes for about 30 bucks, and if you can follow directions you can do it yourself in an afternoon.
