Car keeps stalling out, helppp

Here is the deal: The car is totally cooled down, start the car, and it idle's pretty good at around 800. If you press on the gas (to rev, car not moving) it stalls out, it sometimes catches itself if I let off the gas right away. I am NOT talking about steppin on the gas really fast, just a nice fluided motion to rev a little. NOW, if you go realllyyy slow until it reaches about 1500, then you can step on the gas all the way up to 7 grand or so, and it won't stall. This does this EVERYTIME you press on the gas to go, untill the car fully warms up. What's the deal?? The car is stock, has new plugs (NGK), plug wires, oil filter, and fuel filter.

oh, and it is a 85GSL

HAve you messed with the Air/fuel mixture screw??

sounds like it might be running to rich.

Also your float bowl might be dumping to much fuel into the carby, in turn flooding it until the engine can get up in rpms to burn it.

First try what 851stgen12a had to say about the air/fuel mixture screw. It's pretty easy. I ran across this a bunch when I was swapping carbs around. As a suggestion though I'd try to remember how far you turned it just in case it isn't the problem.

I just had the same problem , it was my carb flooding.
check your floats and fuel pressure.

BTW- that info cost me $400 at the local shop after 1 1/2 years of rebuilding

peace

Clockwise for lean, counter for rich.

Someone correct me if I'm being retarded. It's too early in the morning.

Check your accelerator pump. When you open the throttle, the air flow increases very quickly, but the gas flow takes more time to catch up because of its greater density. This results in a lean condition until the fuel flow catches up. The accelerator pump compensates for this by squirting extra fuel in to the venturi. Look in the primary venturis while you open the throttle. You should see two streams of fuel.

Generally speaking, if a car runs poorly when cold, but OK when hot, that would suggest a lean condition.

I also just notice, there is a slight backfire on deacceleration, the engine also shakes on deacceleration only (not to violent, i don't know if this is normal). where is the accelerator pump, and how do i check that?

i thought the accelrator pump was only for wghen ya stomped the gas it woukld squirt a bit of extra fuel in to cach up withj hte sudden increase of air, he is talking about just easing onto the gas not stomping...

I'm sick so correct me if I'm being dumb here. But aren't the nozzles for the AP under that brass screw? And the spitting fuel coming from underneath showing that the AP is working properly? Well, unless it was spurting fuel alll the time and at idle, not just when you pump the gas. Where's Sterling when you need him? Ow, my fricken' head

You might want to try the fuel filter, too. A clogged one can exhibit some weird issues and its like $5 anyways.
