Unhappy Car developed a horrible new sound...PLEASE help

Ok, recently whn pulling away from stop lights or anytime I move from a dead stop, I get a sqealing from my car...It almost sounds like a slipping belt, but its not. I cant tell where its coming from, most of the time it sounds like the rear end, but sometimes the front... Anyway, it only does it when the clutch is being engaged and when accelerating while its out. I almost was thinking the clutch disc sqealing because its worn out or something ya know? Because I was thinking that if it was like a heat shield rubbing a driveline or something, it would do it even if the clutch was in...I dont know...Any ideas? The clutch still holds well, and will still spin the tires in first, second, and chirp going into third...So I just dont know??

PS - I also ruled out squealing belt as it only does it with the clutch out, or being let out, and its been my experiance that belts will slip without the engine being loaded down. Plus the belts feel nice and tight...

PPS - I also thought about breaks dragging or squealing, but why would they only do it with the clutch out or being let out?

PPPS - It usually does it in first and second (sometimes third) until about 4K in all the gears no matter what speed im going (so I could be going down the highway at 60, downshift and accelerate and it will do it, or i could be going through town at 25 and it will do it)...Go figure...Im lost

Most probably the clutch throw-out bearing. The throw-out bearing is located inside the bellhousing on the gearbox input shaft. It's attached to the clutch fork and is what actually engages the pressure plate when you depress the pedal.

Isn't that a coincedence? I just posted the same question in the Canadian Forum about my car doing the same type of thing.
Is it expensive to change the throw-out bearing? Is it a long job to do this?

It's just a matter of dropping the gearbox and swapping the bearing. The bearing itself is pretty cheap.

Its you discombulator valve, or bad muffler bearing

No seriously sounds like a bad Pilot bearing, or throw out bearing...

I dont think its the throw out bearing because it isint squeaking while the clutch is in which is when its getting used (right?)...But, just for fun...If it was the throw out bearing, why will it do it sometimes and not other? I mean, I can start from a light in downtown and it will sqeak, come back a little later, do the exaxt some thing and it wont. When it does it in first I have found that if I rev the engine and dump the clutch going into second, it wont do it after that for a while also...

It only makes noise when a certain amount of tension is on it. Jack the rear up so the car won't go anywhere and try holding it where it makes it's noise.

If you're gonna change the pilot bearing or the release bearing (throwout bearing, thrust bearing, whatever.) You may as well do a clutch and rear main seal and tranny input shaft seal as well. After all, you're dismounting the engine and tranny...

The throwout bearing on my Honda went just as the clutch was going. It almost stalled the engine when I had the clutch all the way down, it made the most awful noise... When I did the clutch, The bearing was all blue and the side seals were destroyed... Several ***** were missing adn the ones that were left weren't really *****... They were more like cylinders that were way out of round. I couldn't turn the bearing by hand. Luckily I didn't **** up my tranny input shaft.

My throwout bearing in my 80 only did it sometimes and not others. It would do it under acceleration and then when you push the clutch in it went away. But hell who knows...

Could the throw out bearing squeek when I am downshifting. My transmission makes a funny noise when I downshift in third and second, like a squeek.

All the bad throw-out bearings I've come across only squealed when letting the clutch out and accelerating mainly when pulling away from a stop in first which is what yours is doing right? And it won't usually do it all the time either until it starts getting really bad. My money's definately still on the throw-out bearing.

Ok...I also noticed some fresh rear end fluid on the rear pumpkin, and I was thinking maybe its somethin back there...The fluid was definatly fresh, like just leaked out fresh, and I could actually kinda turn the drain plug by hand . It only moved maybe 1/32 of an inch, but it was enough to worry me. I figure I'll put some fresh fluid in and make sure theyre both tight and see if that helps...I swear to GOD the noise is comming from back there. Also, when its doing it, if I kinda pull up on the e-brake to tension it (when it just barly starts to slow me down) the noise goes away...And it also started doing it more frequently, it will do it while Im coasting after I let off the gas as well now.

Well in that case it's probably not the release bearing. Not sure what it is if it's coming from the rear end. Any noises when cornering?

No, not much noise during cornering. It still squeaks, but nothing out of the ordinary. It has the typical vibration when cornering and accelerating due to the LSD, and it does this weird squeak im trying to figure out, but nothing else. Also, the LSD still works well, it left two nice black stripes just yesterday the same length and everything. They looked identical, so I dont know whats up back there...

How about a warped rotor in the rear or rear wheel bearings?

FYI, the throw-out bearing is loaded when the clutch is pressed in. This is why it isn't really a good idea to sit at a light with the clutch pressed in all the time.

Dam link didn't work so anyways rear end gears are ring and pinion. the pinion seal is in the differential where the driveshaft yoke goes in.

Gotcha, thanks bro. I was kinda trying to figure out where the fluid was coming from...It just mostly seemed to be fresh right at the bottom. Not like it was running down the side of the diff or anything, cause anywhere else its all caked on with grease...Except right there at the bottom where all the fresh fluid is, like its washed all the grease off.

Now I'm baffled. I drove my RX-7 to work this morning and there was NO squelching/squeeking noise. I drove, as usual- FAST and I do remember keeping the clutch in at the red lights. (This habit will stop, I'll take my foot of the clutch when stopped).
So now I don't know quite to think about the squelching-squeek that I heard over the past week.
If the noise stays away then yipiee, I don't have to spend money. I should, however, get the car looked at just in case.
Any ideas on how I can do some checks myself?

Okay, Okay, here's an update on the squelching/squealing sound coming from my car. Driving to Boston Pizza for lunch there was NO sound, alls good. So I thought. Driving back to the office there's the squelching/squealing sound again. I noticed that it goes away when I ENGAGE the clutch or at a stand still. As I accelerate the squeal comes back and is louder as the rpms go up. There is a rythmic pattern to the squeal to represent something spinning.
So if anyone, anyone can help me diagnose this it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm going to probably end up taking it to a mechanic but there aren't any reliable ones near by that have experience on Rotaries.
Help me someone, pleeeeeaaaaassssseee!!!

That sounds EXACTLY like what I have going on, except mine has become more and more scarce lately...Hmmmm...Im so lost...I thought maybe heat shield rubbing driveline, and thats why it changes with the speed, and only happens sometimes, maybe the suspension has to flex just right, like when accelerating? I dont know...

PS - Got to thinking, it may also be this because when you engage the clutch, it could torque things just right to make it rub??
