the CAR decides when it wants to shut off!

situation: driving along, come up to a stop sign and depress clutch, i am now coasting along, the RPMS drop to about 1000 then to 900, then 800, 700, 500, 300, and boom, it shuts off. i have no clue why. the ONLY resent things i have done is an oil change and a new fuel pump. a friend told me that it backfires right before it shuts off too. any ideas would be great

Is your choke closing? Is the replaced fuel pump OEM or aftermarket? Did you touch your idle screw at all? First thing you can do is pull a bottom plug out (leading) and check it for signs of fouling.

If its backfiring...I dont think its your fuel pump.

Its still pretty cold up there, isn't it?

My car will do that until it is properly warmed up....if I dont have the choke out long enough.

I have to replace my thermostat....maybe you do too?

does it do it all the time, mine used to do that every once in a while.. never did figure out why.... It was so sporadic that I didnt bother looking too hard. I would just coast, put it in gear and lightly raiset he clutch to restart it.
