Can you relace the clutch with just jackstands?
I was gonna have a car lift to use, but the bay got ruined by the hurricane. Has anyone ever taken the tranny out enough to replace the clutch just using regular jackstands?
not on an rx7 but on a supra. i assume its much harder to do on a supra. it can be done with jackstands. when you get everything off (starter, slave cylinder, bell housing bolts) if you have a rollng jack put it under the transmission and just pull it back. it would definatly be easier with a couple people, and four jackstands.
Yes, you can. Jack that sucker up as far as you can though. Helps if you have a set of ramps to drive the front on then jack up the back. The tranny doesn't weigh anything so it isn't difficult. While your under there be sure to check that pilot bearing. For just a couple of $ not a bad idea to change it. PITA to get out though, but an ounce of prevention..........Well, you get the picture. Have fun, I did.

I have to do this job right away myself. Too many launches this summer during Solo II finally put the finishing touch on my really old original clutch. I just hope that I don't have to resurface the flywheel.
I had no jack stands or wheel ramps. Bench pressing the tranny with arms stretched open is a bit tough, but its really not that heavy when its near your body. It sure is tight tho, you will be fine
good luck, hope your pilot bearing comes out with a lot more ease than mine did.
