Can you make a 79 glass moonroof work on a FB?

Argh!

I finally got my hands on a glass moonroof, and I thought that all moonroofs would fit all first gens, but I did some searching and it seems that I got a 79 moonroof and my car is an 84. I figured maybe it was just missing some mounting hardware, but I went ahead and grabbed it since it was cheap, but it has the latch instead of the spinner **** so I'm pretty sure it is the 79 one.

Is it possible to make it work with my car, or do I just need to sell it and keep looking for the right one?

Im pretty sure your out of luck on this one.

The 79 I had used a pop top, which is totally different than the **** style. Even if you could make it work you would need most of the poptop hardware from an SA. Probably cheaper and easier to sell it and buy the right one.

If the mounting holes for the hardware are in the same place, you can strip the latch and hinges off of a steel roof - - the assemblies are the same for an FB steel or an FB glass.

I don't know if the holes are in the same place, though; I've never seen a 79 roof that close up.

I saw an 80 glass moonroof on ebay today, current bid was about $106.

The mounting holes on a 79 are completely different. The 80 is the same as the fb's.

Yeah, I compared the hardware from my metal roof and the mounting points for the hardware were ever so slightly off. I gently placed the glass on the RX7 anyway and it was AWESOME

The glass was filthy when I got it, but it cleaned up really nice. It has a few scratches, but hey, it's a 30 year old piece of glass. Does anyone have an FB glass that would want to trade by chance? My initial thought was to sell it on Ebay and then turn around and buy the correct one, but that would feel like a dick move since a fellow RX7clubber hooked me up and I don't want to make a profit on it. But, I really want a glass moonroof too.

Can someone familiar with the 79 roof tell me if I have everything? The seller gave me the glass moonroof and a latch. To my knowledge, the only thing missing is the security pin, but that isn't necessary for operation if my understanding is correct. Here are a few pics:

Yes, your right, looks like the only thing missing is the pin at the front. I wouls be interested in buying if you want to sell. I bought one last year from Calif. but when it arrived it was only a few glass crumbs! Fed Ex broke it but made the delivery after cleaning out the box! Then the seller never insured it. Bad experience. Anyway, I'll PM you with an inquiry.

Sell it and buy the right one. That way you are happy, and you make someone else with a 79 happy as well. 79 ones are much harder to come across. If you feel like you are making a profit, you could always just give whatever cash you have left after buying the correct one back to the guy that gave you that 79 one.

Yes, that would be some bad mojo, methinks.

Okay, I'm just going to sell it then. I'm going to hunt for the correct sunroof, then sell mine for whatever that price is. Banzai gets first dibs.
