Can you identify this spring?

I was out looking things over on my carburetor today and I found a spring that is disconnected. Below is a picture of it. So far I haven't been able to find what it is for. My car runs great, so I'm guessing it's not to anything real important, but then again today I found that the Throttle Sub-Return was not connected correctly and it made a huge difference when I connected it correctly, and I thought it was running great before that.

This is on the driver's side of the carburetor just above the engine.

If anyone could tell me what this spring is for and where it should be connected, that would be awesome.

Thanks,

Noel Smith

Hot start.
You basically just need to lift it straight up and there will be a spot for it to hook on to, easy as that.

I see, that's probably why it doesn't want to start sometimes when I've been driving it for a while and then stop at a store. A few times now it's taken a couple of tries to start after I've gone into a store real quick.

And both worth their weight in gold, as paper editions have long since gone the way of the dodo.

I already have them both. My problem was identifying what spring it was from the drawings in the manuals. Now that I know what spring it is, I had no problem seeing where it is supposed to be connected from the carb manual.
