Can working 13B aux port valves be installed wrong?

Can anyone tell me if the auxillary port valves can be installed backwards or 180* out of phase, or perhaps on the wrong side L or R? I have a '85 SE that I've been working with for a while. I've got it running excellent but can't seem to build top end HP. RG once mentioned that the valves might have been inadvertantly installed backwards and therefore not opening properly once rotated by the actuators (both of which are working properly). I'm remembering that they only lined up in one direction with there being a big and little end of the mating slots/shafts. But I never inspected the port holes and made sure open was open and closed was closed. In any case if nobody can tell me for sure I'll have to pull it all down again just to settle my mind.

Thanks,
Vernon

Try pulling on the accelerator cable and watch if the actuators move. If you have movement then it's installed correctly. I had the same prob with my 84 GSL SE thinking it was the actuators, it turned out to be a bad vacuum advance module on the trailing side. Test out your vacuum advance unit on both Trailing and Leading.

Thanks for some input. At this point I've checked everything I can and it's all good. Next step is a compression test.
