can a rotary produce intake roar?

I was riding in a civic today that had a really loud intake roar. It sounded great. I was wondering if a rotary could make any kind of sound like this, I have never been in a car with a aftermarket carb so I dont know if they make any kind of sound.

rotary intake noise can rival the exhaust noise!

loudest ANYTHING i've ever heard was a bridgey with open headers and no air filter. There were two noises, the exhaust bellow and the intake SCREAM.

i highly don't recommend running without an air filter, of course.

The induction sound from my IDA at WOT is awesome.

In some bridge-ports and PP's I've been in it's even louder than the exhaust.

When I put on my custom homemade open intake air filter on my 12a I did hear a noticable increase in intake noise. Not that it was louder than my exhaust. I like the sound. But it may be to much for a daily driver.

my friend was driving my car, and I think I did hear a kind of scream coming from the intake. I thought maybe it would have a deep intake sound.

well ... you can hear them without the air filter in place, but the systems i've ever heard with an air filter are the Webers and Dell'Ortos ... they sound pretty good!

Wouldn't that growl come from the V-Tech? I always hear how they love that shound after 8000rpm...when the V-tech opens up...

They say the same thing about the rotary at 8000rpm...Sport Compact Car did...what's up with that? Is that the intake sound? Should I attach a whistle or a horn to my intake?

VTEC doesn't make any noise. The VTEC just switches the cam lobe profiles. The timing change accounts for the increased noise due to sharper intake resonanse characteristics. Just like, say, in a bridge/peripheral ported rotary.

At idle and acceleration my intake makes an awesome sucking/roar/whooshing sound. (RB intake, RB modded Holley Carb), at highway cruising my exhaust is all you hear. :P

My car is loud as hell when the secondaries open. (i Cut slits around my air cleaner box). And if i hook up my studder vavle, it sounds like a bad *** go cart.... Though i don't know if thats a good thing.

The induction sound from my IDA at WOT is awesome.
Same with my Dellorto... the snarl it emits when the hammer drops sends chills up my spine.

You guys that have never heard a sidedraft carb on a rotary are gonna cream yourselves the first time you hear one. One of the best sounds I've heard from an automobile.

Oh yeah, and if you slap an open air filter on your stock Nikki, you'll get tons of induction noise. I used to have the rx7.com intake, and it was plenty loud. Nothing like as nice sounding as the Dell, but certainly a noticeable improvement over the stock vacuum cleaner imitation lol.

Mmmm, induction noise.

When I'm cruising along there isn't alot of it. Then when I put the foot down, the revs pick up, boost starts to come on and then you can't hear over the stereo. The combination of air being sucked in and the turbo spinning is music to my ears.

This is through a K&N pod style filter then through about about a foot and a half of 3" pipe and into the turbo.

It sounds really sweet.

I KNEW I should have kept that...j/k .

Actually...Has anyone made/used the RX7.com style intake AND trimmed the filter housing? Would that make a bigger difference in sound?

I've got a K&N filter, I just have to get rid of SOME MORE of my air cleaner assembly its almost a quarter gone!!!!

Oh, and I do remember noticing a neat noise emmiting from my hood when i drove to the corner store with no air cleaner and filter on. Sounds cool...wouldnt call it a roar though
