Question Fixing a stuck (open) OMP

Going for my clean air, and they won't even start the test due to too much blue smoke.

I've been told that my OMP is stuck in the open position by a different garage, but the only concern was too much oil being burned.

The non-problem has turned into a problem thanks to the clean air inspection; I'll lose my plates in 6 days!

I've searched the archives but found nothing of help on a first gen.

2 questions:

1) Anyone know of any quick/easy things to check, or have any fixes (other than disconnecting it and running two-stroke)

2) If no answer to 1), does anyone know whether FB OMP = FC OMP? I might be able to pull some info from the 2nd gen site.

Yes, the OMP can get stuck open. I'd suggest that you rebuild the pump. It's an easy job that you or your "mechanic" can do. Give Mike Lowe a call at http://www.loweperformance.com/ . He has all the parts and instructions on how to do it. It'll cost 10 bucks for so.

The FC pump will not fit on your FB.

If you are in a big time crunch, then just unhook the OMP for the emissions test. Running w/o it for a few minutes isn't going to hurt anything.
Like inittab said, fixing your problem correctly is a simple task.

As an aside to my original question, why is the Oil Metering Pump called a MOP not an OMP?

hehe, I've wondered that myself....

And it would make life more amusing too =)

"I've got a problem with my MOP...."

Edit: Er, wait, I read that wrong... It *is* an OMP, not a MOP

When searching, I found 301 hits on MOP, but 1648 for OMP, so I guess OMP carries the day.

I had seen MOP used so much in recent threads that I assumed that MOP was the official Mazda TLA

(TLA = Three Letter Acronym)
