Angry Can I CUT this bar off the car?

Can I cut this damn bar off the car? It's totally in my way, I need to fit a large radiator and big intercooler up front and it's ruining my plans.

If need be, I can replace it with some square tubing further up between the frame rails. Car won't be racing around corners or anything.

That's a crossmember. If removed it'll need to be added back in close by just as strong.

Is it just for crash purposes?

^^No, if you look at the chassis thats really the only thing strong that holds the front of the car "together" when you remove the cross member. And think about how small the bolts are to hold the crossmember on.

Just replace it with something similar in strength in that general area if you don't have rules to deal with.

Right on, I'll probably just replace it with some 1" square tube but just a little lower and more forward.

Add the new bar before you cut the old one out.

Yes, two photobucket pictures. Your work might be blocking them.

Where are you going to mount the turbo? I would assume since you are going intercooler you will have to move the turbo around to get clearance to run the pipes. Also, where are you at in illinois? Always cool to have another FB owner close by.

You are going to clock the compressor wheel though right? Having it at that angle makes little sense with an IC

yeah, I'll have to point it the other way.............

the exact direction, I'm quite sure yet........ gonna hopefully drop the new motor in next weekend and get everything bolted up to get a better idea

still debating on a air to air or water to air intercooler...... space is the limiting factor

and it's a street car, so.....
