Like the subject says. I am going to be switching over to the later model strut housings so I can use Tokico inserts, but I wanted to see if I could use the calipers on my car instead of trusting a set of junkyard ones. If I can't bolt the calipers on, are there caliper rebuild kits available?

I should have known better than to ask a simple technical question on this board.

I should have titled the thread 'How to mAke my rX-7 doRifTo!!!!!11!!11one!!eleven!'

sorry Moses, but never had to do it. I would say to give it a try with the the struts off the car. You can alwasy put it back to normal while to look for late model calipers.

I have heard they will, but cannot confirm it.
Doesn't the strut housing bolt to the lower knuckle, allowing you just swap the upper part?

if you use the 81-83 tubes, you can use the SA brakes.

I am using SA brakes on 82 strut tubes,, in the RX-3...

I plan to upgrade to a different caliper soon... ala Wilwood... I like the quick change pad arrangement of these calipers... they are just so heavy.. and not very precise.

yes you can.. the calipers use a different thread for the brake line fitting though, you will need to make different brake lines or re-tap the caliper

Nope, 'cause if I hadn't bumped the thread, no one would have replied.

I ended up getting a friend to cut down the strut casings so the '81-'85 inserts would fit without spacers. That way I didn't need to switch anything. I was having a really hard time finding '81 and up strut casings locally that weren't completely rusted out.

Fly down to LA for SS8. I will hook you up on 81+ struts/brakes etc

It's tempting, trust me.

The $$$ just ain't there though. I'm really hoping that there will be another one next year, 'cause I'll have some paid vacation time by then.
