Check ebay or the 2nd gen for sale on here. You should be able to get them cheaper. I think Rx Seven had some for sale or could get them from one of his local wrecking yards.

I bought a fairly new t2 coils, air temp sensor, and something else for like $30...all in excellent condition from a 2nd gen owner on the forum...

Im sure this is a stupid question, but how many coils do you need for the upgrade, I snagged what i believe to be 4 coils from the junkyard today. If the upgrade only requires 2 then someone else can have the other two.

I dont want to sound like a complete dumbass, but what exactly are coils, what is there function and what does upgrading them do to improve your car?

Any question is a good question! Coils supply spark. Upgrading to a 2nd gen coil bypasses the distributer and helps the car run smoother.

Bypass?

OK, I have an FB and will eventually be replacing coils, etc.........

Just doing the research on it now while i physically replace other more important things.

So is it better to go to 2nd gen coils or buy aftermarket coils? I need the rundown on this as I want to do it right the first time. I will eventually go turbo ($$$$) but for now the engine is stock until I blow a seal, which will eventually happen once i replace the exhaust next month (RB).So for now I'm focused on suspension and brakes. I figure I might as well make it handle and stop in preparation for the power.

The turbo questions will come later when I have the cash.

I'm new to the FB and have alot to learn about the FI and ECU.

I think I am going to try and stop an umpteen page list of threads on this subject. The 2nd gen upgrade is an all around good way to go. The key thing you have to ask yourself is, am I going to get what I want out of this upgrade? I think alot of people try to overkill on an issue that basically boils down to, do what YOU think you can afford, and what is going to work with your situation, funding, and part availability. Just my opinion.

going turbo

I have a 13b in there now and I like the larger engine but When it comes time I will do the research. I guess I'm doing the research now. So, if there is a benefit to 12at over 13bt the I would have to think about it. For now I'm sticking with the 13b until something changes my mind.

going turbo and coils

Time and money are not the issues. Not that I have loads of cash to spend. For me it's all about doing it right. If I have to wait to do it right then so be it. i would like to autox it. If I feel the need for speed while I'm waiting I'll just go for a ride on the zx-11. 180 in a heartbeat.
