Can anybody tell me what this is?
Well inside the large circle is some sort of emissions valve type of giberish... Not entirely sure which system its for... and the Little circle is circling the bolt on the top of the Idler Arm assembly...
Mind if I ask why you car curious of these things? Is something malfunctioning?

Yeah, I'm referring to the valve thing with the hose on one end and the pipe at the other. Nothing is malfunctioning particularly that I can see, I just thought it was odd that this is there just hanging. Wonder what's for and if it's suppose to connect somewhere...
This is a one-way flow valve for the primary cat on my 84SE - yours doesn't appear to be attached to anything, but on my SE, the other end of that chamber goes down to the primary cat converter. Along that pipe is the splitter that goes to the '6'-ports, as well, but you seem to have a carb'd car...
The function of this part is to only allow airflow to go toward the catalyst from the airpump, i.e., you don't want high temperature air from the cats making their way up that pipe when under throttle and getting back to the air pump. My understanding is that this is only in operation during deceleration and idle conditions, as controlled by the ACV attached to the lower intake manifold.
Might want to check and see if you have an open port on your cat that should be plugged if you need to pass emissions in your locale. HTH,

You mean the pipe that goes to the cat to supply air? that was my first guess, but there is another pipe that goes down to the cat, which I assume has that function. hmm...
Oooh, that makes sense. Thanks Carl. Well, it's obviously not connected. Is that a big deal? I plan to replace the pre-cats with either an RB header or a Rotary Performance converter system, hopefully by the end of the year...

Yeah I meant by Jan. Ok, so now, what do I do with it if I'm not going to use it? remove the valve and hose and plug the hole in the air pump? or do I leave it hanging like a limp bizkit?
I just realized though, reading another thread, that those pre-cats must be clogged like a mother f... I mean the air pump line to the precats has not been connected at least since I have had the car (almost 2 years). If it wasn't for my exhaust leak I'd be screwed
. Come to think about it, maybe the leak was caused by the exhaust trying to get out somehow (the leak seems to be at some point before the main cat). Anyways, have not been able to setaside enough money to change the whole exhaust piping from header to muffler, so hopefully be the end of January...
