Can anybody identify this engine??
Hey folks, the 2nd gen guys told me I'd have better luck over here. I bought this 86 Mazda B2000 with a 13b swapped into it. I can't get ahold of the guy I bought it from anymore, and I'm trying to figure out what kind've RX7 the engine came from (So I can rebuild it) The 2nd gen guys seem to think it's a GSL-SE 13b engine, but I think I remember the dude I bought it from saying something about he swapped the front cover. The pics are on my cardomain website, if anybody could tell me anything, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

13 b's in the first gen era were pretty much all the same...not much variation...they came about as an alternative with alittle more punch to the 12a...if it says 13b on the rotor housings buy a 13b rebuild kit you'll be more than on your way then...

Looks like a hydrid to me. The end plates look to be from a SE (6 port). The center plate may be 12A or early 13B (no injector holes). The rotor housings have the coolant o-rings in them, so that means that the rotor housings are probably SE (ealier ones had MAZDA written differently on them). Are you sure about the trotors being machined for 3mm seals? The SE and early 13Bs (and 12As) came with 3mm seals.
I would guess you have
- SE end plates
- 12A or early 13B center plate
- SE rotors
- SE housings
Get a GSL-SE rebuild kit, and you should be set (some of the gaskets you won't use). Are you replacing the damaged rotor? If so, you might want to get a pair of matching rotors. The flywheel should give some clues as well (as long as you have the stock one). Does it have N304 on it? This means that it goes with SE rotors.
