Agreed, sounds like the time I hooked the two wires by the shifter together. Only to find that they blow the dimmer switch because they are for the cars with the automatic trans. By passing it worked for me, it's just then your gauges are fully illuminated all the time, you may want to buy another rheostat or another dimmer switch off someone.

Ok I take what I said back after rereading your problem you stated the gauges are not working as well. The dimmer switch is not your problem.

have the same problem. My headlight retractor switch broke and i burned a fusibl elink. I rewired the low beams to a different switch. Icant find which wire to put juice to to power the instrument lights, so now i put my cell phone in the dash tot see... When i put power throught the dimmerswitch it gets hot and stuff smokes. 84 gslse

dan-- he didnt say he gauges dont work, he just said he gauge lights dont work.

you can bypass the dimmer switch. i had to do this twice with my 1st rx7. first the gauge lights just quit working. they were the only lights that didnt work. the day i got it fixed and swapped in a new dimmer switch, i connected to the wires next to the shifter. so i just bypassed it and never put a new one in.

theres a diagram on how to bypass it put since search is totally f'ed up i dont think youll be able to find it.

Recheck your meter fuse and the contacts in the fuse block.

You have 3 of them by the driverside shock tower. Trace the small wire from the positive battery cable to the link junction.
