caliper removal

I seem to be having trouble getting the front calipers off of my 85 GSL. I can get to and remove the bolt holding the top of the caliper in place, but cannot seem to even get to the bolt holding the bottom of the caliper to the mounting plate. There is some sort of steering arm running directly over top of the bolt so I cannot get a socket or wrench of any kind on it. Am I missing something??

just unbolt the 14mm or 17mm bolt which holds the caliper to the caliper bracket. there is no need to remove the 2 17mm strut bolts

I've attached a picture of what I'm looking at, because it doesn't seem to match up to what the FSM is showing. I have a 14mm bolt on the top and bottom of the mounting plate that looks like it has to come out in order to remove the caliper. The arm on the bottom runs directly over the bottom bolt that needs to be removed. Hoping I'm just really confused and not following the FSM properly...

for a simple brake pad change out, there is no need to remove the caliper bracket or the entire assembly. just undo the one in front, grab the caliper, swing upwards using a screwdriver.

I need to change the caliper. It won't release after pressure has been applied to the brakes.
