A/C swap question
ok its hot as **** up here in the northwoods and idk if i can handle it much longer haha..
now with the being said i have a 85 gs that has never had a/c, my friend has a 85 gsl with factory a/c that works, its just a little on teh low side of freeon....my friend is williing to (for the right price) give up all of his A/C parts to swap over into my car...
im wondering if anyone has done this before? and if so what is all involved here? will i need to swap anything fromm my car back oover to the A/C donor? also, my car has the "A/C" button inside but i dont think there are any wires hooked up too it, i believe its just there for looks lol idk thats why im asking....is this a do-able job...?

Anything is doable, but its not an "easy" task. First of all, take it to a shop and have them recover the refrigerant so you dont vent it all to the atmosphere. Most around here will do this for free.
You obviously will need the compressor, belt, and pulley. You will need the lines from the compressor to the condenser, the condenser itself, the dryer, and the lines from the condenser to the evaporator (this is where it sucks). The evaporator is behind the dash in the car, so that will take some digging to get to. While you're back there, I would keep an eye out for the wiring for the switch, and there should be a wire going to the compressor clutch also under the hood, and possible a pressure switch or two plumbed inline somewhere. There's also most likely an expansion valve before the evaporator, but those vary in shapes and sizes.
Basically, you need to take everything thats part of the system. Then, to install in your vehicle, get yourself an AC service o-ring kit and replace as many o-rings as you can so its a nice and sealed system. Once its all in, take it down to your favorite shop and let them vacuum the system down to check for leaks, and fill it up with refrigerant/oil. Voila.
