A/C removal question. (searched)

I searched through some posts on A/C removal and this may be a stupid question, but the belt driven pump to the right of the engine (looking from the front of the car) is the A/C pump correct? (I dont have power) My real question is does the A/C pump serve any purpose to helping the flow of coolant through the engine? How does the coolant flow with no pump. Because if i take out the A/C pump, al thats left is the alternator. Again, sorry if this question is completley rediculous...Im just trying to free up some room and maybe drop a few pounds in the process

AC has nothing to do with the coolant flow. Coolant is moved though the engine by the water pump. That pump is powered by the pulley just above the main pulley. Removing the AC pump, pulley and related components will have no affect on cooling. The only time the cooling is affected is when the air pump is removed. Then the belt can slip on the water pump. A dual belt alternator pulley or the infamous yoohoo belt will take care of that.

dont worry about it. yes that is the AC pump. It only pumps freon (or whatever is used now). The water pump moves the engine coolant. It is built into the front cover of the engine (when looking from the front its at the top/left of the engine, you'll see two large hoses (one running in and one out) that are connected to the radiator.

Let me know how the AC removal goes, I might do it soon myself.

the water pump pumps the coolant it is attached to the radiator fan. the a/c pump pumps freon through the a/c system. they are 2 totally unrelated systems.

Pull it and the mounting bolts attaching it to the engine. You will have to back them out using vise grips. No need to go to a mechanic to get your freon out. If its not working well, 9 out of 10 you don't have much anyway. Just cut the line!

3L220 belt. Do a search. However, I personally doubt that it will work better than the dual alt belt system.

I just pulled my engine and also removed all the A/C equipment and lines and condensor. Its easy and doesnt affect anything, except that you no longer have a/c. Very quick and painless.

Well some have a problem with the fact that you cannot adjust the tension in the yoohoo belt. I personally have used both systems, and didn't have any particular problem with either one, as far as belt slipping goes.

Compare the 2 belts you have. Chances are they are not equal length and one is doing most of the work. I have had a hard time getting a matched pair of belts for the dual pulley.

I just finished A/C removal on my car. no problems what so ever
