C.D Player Hooking Up?(I searched)
So my OEM tape player and raido wont work and I cant find one near by to replace it. So I got a cd player. My question is, is it just a match color wires and connect them, or is it more harder than that? Someone know of a site/ posting with wire digrams or anything? Thanks alot!
Scotty
O yeah, its an 84 GS. Not sure if it matters or not.

scott, you need to do a complete re-wire and bypass the stock amps. you do this by running new speaker wire to each speaker from your new radio's harness. you then need to find a 12V constant and 12V switched power in your harness. do not cut the plugs off. you can either tap into existing wires by finding the appropriate wire and pulling back the sheathing, poking through the wire, splitting it into an ovular shape "()" and wrapping the new wire through and soldering and heat shrinking that connection or by purchasing the correct wiring harness meant for the rx-7's harness and will wire onto the aftermarket stereo's harness. you will also need to run your own ground. if you replace the head unit, you will also want to replace the speakers as well.

yeah, like he said lol, i think best buy still carries the harness you need, but i can't remember. it's a lot easier/safer/faster than doing what i did and that was splicing and trial and error :P ... there's also a write up on the stereo wiring.... https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/1st-gen-radio-wire-color-codes-773693/
also in case that don't work.... https://www.rx7club.com/search.php?searchid=6291238

Crutchfield carries the harness so that you can get your 12v Positive, ignition and illumination, but as mentioned earlier you're going to have to run speaker wires because the stock amps use those odd microphone-looking proprietary plugs to connect to the stock stereo.
There *is* a connector in there that seems to provide sound to the rear speakers, I'm using that right now on a temporary basis, but the fronts aren't available unless you run new wires. It's just best to run new wires for all four anyway. Even better to buy an aftermarket amp, wire your speakers to that, then RCA or optical your amp to the deck if you have the right inputs/outputs on both.
