MA A/C Compressor does not cycle and stays on

Hello,

I don't have much experience on A/C systems. My 82 has not worked since 85.

I decided to replace my leaking compressor and waiting on a condenser but in the mean time I decided to charge it up and see where I'm at.

So far (1 day) its looking good but my question is why doesn't the compressor cycle off.

I thought they were supposed to cycle on and off ?

Appreciate any help on this. Thanks

On more "modern" systems you're correct they can cycle on and off as needed. The A/C system on the FB is a very simple one and other than a safety switch that will turn off if refrigerant is low, and other to turn it off if it gets too cold (its in the evap box inside the car and keeps it from getting frosted/frozen) there are no provisions to cycle the compressor, its either on or off.
