WV A/c compatability

Ive decided a/c isnt such a bad idea. But im not sure how tricky my situation is going to be. Ive researched and read that I would need to use what came with the car because they made two systems with non compatible parts. Originally my car is a gsl-se, however it has been swapped back to a 12a. My question is, will I need the gsl-se a/c setup and would it work on the 12a mounting?

AC is not 12A/13B specific. I'm not sure how they decided which cars got which systems. Supposedly one type was factory installed and one was installed once the cars got to the US.

The biggest consideration will be getting a system that is complete; you'll need;

* all the hoses and fittings
* Filter/Dryer can which uses these hoses
* Condensor (radiator looking thing in front of the coolant radiator)
* compressor, itself
* mounting bracket for whichever motor you have in there, and your compressor
* properly sized belt to run it

A/C systems aren't all that complicated in how they function, only that you have a means of turning the compressor, electrifying the electro-mag clutch on the front of the compressor so it turns on and off, and a solid indoor fan motor to push air across the inside exchanger.

If memory serves, the bracket you need to mount the compressor mounts to the front cover or the forward edge of the front rotor housing on two huge bolts that stick out to the driver's side. Onto this mounts the bracket, and onto the bracket mounts the compressor using a swing-arm adjustable mount for tensioning the belt.

If your car still has the condensor coil and other small parts in place, it could be a pretty simple install. If not - you've got your work cut out for you. Good luck,

OP,

I have a full AC system from an 85 gsl-se I just ripped out, PM me if you need something. The compressor was rebuilt recently, and I have pics of all of it because I going to sell it.

Thanks for all the info guys, Im already talking to a guy that has a full system and he is kinda local but his was a gsl not an "se" tho... I just noticed you arent so far away either.. haha. . Also the FB I bought was a drag car for a while...they stripped everything under the hood out. so I need literally everything from the firewall forward. Yeah I know its gonna be a long road but Im pulling the motor anyway to polish it change my oil pan gasket and numerous other things..so taking the radiator out to put the condenser in front isn't too shabby considering. So I will be sending you a pm directly Juicebox.
