Question buying first 7, how much, what to do...

Im new to this forum, but my main ?s are these, i recently sold my cbr in a quest for a 7, i got 1500 for it. theres a older woman on the way out of town who has had a 85 s sitting under a cover in her drive way for the past 3 years. i asked her and she said shes willing to sell it. somethings wrong with the clutch she said, im assuming the slave/masters but other than that, perfect, with 106,000m. ? is how much should i start offering her and to what point, kbbs at 925, and its been sitting for 3yrs so what should i do as far as steps to reserect it. was planning on new plugs wires oil change new gas and tires but tell me how youd start a car thats sat for that long.

all help app. hopefully i will become a driving member of this forum, thx

You need good gas, a strong battery, and some fresh plugs. Should start up. Maybe a little Marvels Mystery Oil down the carb to build compression?

i was in the exact same situation last summer...

i had worked all summer saving up for a car, originally looking at fc's. then one day i felt so stupid to not realize what car was sitting in my neighbors garage all this time. i walked over there and as i got closer i knew it was a 1st gen rx7. as i got closer it saw gsl-se on the back (plus). i proceeded into the garage and looked inside at the odo, under 99,000 (another plus). i ran to the door to ask about it to see if she would sell it.

its been sitting for a long long time, and she was actually gonna sell it to her nephew but she said his parents didnt want a sports car for him. she went ahead and got it all detailed and stuff and a repaint at macco. when she brought it back, she let me have it for a day or two to test drive. those were a fun two days. i talked to her after two days about price. she said what do you think, i said how bout 1 grand. she said, well the dealership offered me $5000 on trade in (i was too stupid to tell her that the dealership wont sell it for that much, and that will still make money since you are buying a car from them). i said ok, well ill talkt to my parents about it (this was over the phone), although i knew it was over. she also said she put over $2000 getting it ready to sell which i think is bullshit, and she didnt need to do all that cause i wanted to work on it myself and get it for as cheap as possible. so i hung up the phone and went for a joy ride cause i put $10 gas in it and she was at work when i called so i had a while left with it. i returned it later that day with a note on it saying i cant buy this car for $5000....

theres some other crazy stuff that happened too...
about 2 months later i was driving to an away football game, and on the way i saw a black 1st gen at a dealership. i stopped by on the way back home, and sure enough it was hers. price on it was like $3600. i was so happy i found it, and by this time i had a lot more money since i had been working another 2 months. i knew i could pull the price way down too cause knew everyhting little thing wrong with te car after driving it for the 2 days. i also know a rotary mechanic who i was gonna have check the car out for me.

i talked to my dad about it htough and he said he didnt want a car that old for me and that if i wait a little bit he can help pay for a better newer car...

about another month or two later, i was driving to work, and i pulled up next to a black 1st gen at a stop light. what do you know, its the stupid lesbian in her car she sold. i had no idea what she was doing with it, her lesbian friend was behind her in her new $80,000 jag following her.

oh well htough, now im looking at 300zx's, just waiting for some money to come in.

i hope you have better luck than i did.

edit: forgot to mention she was the original owner, and that i would have def bought it for $1000. it was probably worth way more than that, it looked brand new on the outside, the inside was a little crapped though.

If she says something is wrong with the clutch, I'd be more worried about that then new tires and things of that sort. When I got my 1st Gen, I used 7 year old perelli bald tires on it for 3 months because I bought a new clutch for it. I regret that as I need new shocks now, but the point it make it run smooth before you start putting in un-nessesary upgrades. If it works fine, leave it. Concentrate on the Worn parts.

As for the clutch, they run like $100 CDN new and thats a kit. Clutch, Pressure plate, and throw out bearing. It probably just needs fluid in the cylinder. Top it up and check it.
