Buying a 12AT FB, Seeking advice from experienced rotorheads
A friend and I are thinking about buying a 12AT FB.. I have experience with a 13B but I'm just wondering if these figures add up for the 12AT.
This is what I've attained from the owner:
-It's a S3 1984 RX-7
-All sides of each rotor read an even ~80psi each on compression test.
-It has a Haltech F9 ECU apparently well tuned
-Dynoed at 105 rwkw / 141 rwhp (running 10psi)
-Needs a few cranks on cold start to get going
-On hot start it doesnt idle well - need to drive it straight away
Im guessing compression could read a little low if the starter is not cranking over at the ideal speed...
I'm just wondering what you guys think of it from these symptoms!
Cheers,
Paul.

Those figures look kinda weak in my opinion.. It has a well tuned Haltech, and boosting 10 psi? That should give it more than 141 rwhp. Its just marginally more than what mine is producing on just 6 psi, and thats with the original ECU and porting. 80 psi compression does not sound that great either, especially if the car is hard to start when its cold. This could very well be a telltale sign that the apex´s are starting to get worn.
Just my two cents.

80psi on compression is not that hot either. My friends RX we just finished building pushes 105-110 on all faces both sides. Might be something to consider. sounds like a solid engine just probably needs a rebuild. specially sence you didnt put how many miles are on it and how hard the previous owner drove it. But still might be worth it to pick up rebuild and resell if your getting it for a good enough price.

apparently compressions tests should not be different between na and decomp motors.. so it looks like NO SALE hehe
no money spent, so no worries, cheers for all the input!
