Brown Clowns
I ordered replacement door panels off of ebay (mint, no fading) for $75 each. Okay, so it's $150 for something cosmetic, but now my interior will be flawless.
I specifically tell the shipper to go FedEx Ground or USPS, not UPS because the clowns in brown always tack on huge broker's fees to take it across the border.
He ships UPS. Phones me to brag about how it was $3 cheaper than FedEx Ground.
Then he tells me it still cost $26 more than the $30 I paid him for shipping - apparently he just 'guestimated' the shipping charges - and could I please send him more money. I say no. Then could I please send him one of my dash kits. I explain that the dash kits, with shipping, are $65, so in effect he's asking me to compensate his $26 shipping charge by sending him something almost three times the value.
He doesn't understand.
*sigh*
So then UPS calls. They have my package at the border, and who is my broker? Oh, and the shipper wrote a value of $180 on the waybill, not $150, so guess which one I pay taxes and duty on?
Fine. I just want the frikkin things delivered, by this point.
Oh, we can't deliver them says UPS
Why not, says I in a moment of articulate brilliance.
We have to be paid brokers fees, taxes, and duty.
Fine. How much?
We don't know.
uh...
We won't know how much Canada Customs and Revenue Services wants until they bill us.
Okay, so what's the problem?
They bill us after it's cleared customs.
So clear it.
We can't do that sir, not until you pay us the fees.
Fine. How much?
We won't know until-
So I have to pay before you'll do anything, but you can't give me an amount to pay until you do it?
yes sir.
(losing patience) Look, this can't be the first package you've taken across the border. You're a parcel delivery service, for crying out loud.
I know we're a delivery service. Don't tell me what my damned job is.
In what part of your package boy mind do you think this call is in any way helpful? You can't deliver my package until I pay. You can't tell me what to pay until you deliver my package.
That's what I said, sir.
And you don't see the problem here?
Sir, you're being abrupt. My supervisor says I don't have to listen to people being abrupt.

True story. And that was just one of 4 phone calls I've exchanged with them in the past 24 hours, but they're all virtually the same. In the most recent one the chick actually said "well sir, maybe next time you should tell your shipper to select FedEx."
I DID tell him to, but - oh, nevermind

what i think is funny is how UPS has been overwhelming the airwaves here in CA with commercials saying how badass they are, how you can trust them and how they put customer service first. what a crock

Its not really UPS's fault you know, its the damn kid you were buying the parts from fault. He should of known better and followed your(customer)'s wishes on shipping method in the first place.
**** that, *of course* it's UPS' fault. They're a bunch of **** smokers over there; they can't even tell you how you're supposed to get your stuff without 4 phone calls!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
But seriously man... I feel for ya.
*Always* ship USPS; cheap, no duty or brokerage fees, and fast. I got my Dellorto setup (good size box) from Oregon to my door in Ottawa in 4 days flat. No extra charges. I didn't play any sneaky games either; claimed and insured for the full value of the merchandise.

yeah myself and a fellow in georgia cross-shipped like-sized packages, i used usps ($2.50 postage) he used UPS ($11 shipping cost). my package got to him four days later, and his package took a full week to arrive at my home.
that teaches me to use USPS.

I think the reason UPS is still in business is because they seem to be a bit more careful with their packages. It costs more and takes longer, but you are putting your package on the line with USPS. I've had quite a few things come to me looking like they've been whooped on with an ax or something. It seems like about every fifth package I get post is battered up to all hell. Never really had a problem with that with UPS.
really? i've had UPS decimate an entire rear end, but not after they'd lost it for a week. the salvage yard was cool and sent another one, but when they got the original back, he couldn't comprehend how you could do so much damage to an entire rear axle, much less lose a chunk of steel 5' long. when he got it back, he called me.... told me the thing looked like it had been dragged about 500 miles, then tossed in a crusher.
I once personally delivered a GSL rear end to someone so I could avoid brown. But I never thought they were that bad. USPS also did a number on a package I recieved once. The box looked like it was left out in the rain, then tossed into a truck and buried under some heavier boxes and left there for a day or two. When I got it, it was still damp and seriously distorted, but the part inside was just fine. Only took a couple days too.
manntis, ill go the 45 miles to the ups hub and start kick ***..... would that make you feal better? when u guys see the news title thing about some ******* going in and cleaning house on ups look 4 the l.e. < when they pan the parking lot
and yes UPS SUCKS ***. it took me 4 mts to get a check from them for a damaged item

I feel for you Manntis... thing I wonder is why these people haven't been weeded out by evolution yet... they must be just on the threshold of having just enough brainpower to stay alive each day, but not any more than that...
oh well.. the guy DID save you $3...

I know exactly what you went through!! When I got my headers from RB they were sent via UPS..... the $169US headers ended up costing me $498.12CDN when they got to my door in Victoria, BC(2hrs from Seattle). It would have been cheaper for me to drive down there getting my 11mpg, have them installed, and drive back ........... and I was also hung up on by UPS for being "abusive"
