Broken choke return valve on 83 GSL-no power

When rebuilding the carb off an 83 GSL, I broke the Choke return valve (black black body with green top and bottom) which I believe is specific to the California versions as per the Haynes manual. I simply replaced the valve with a new section of tubing. I have found that in the forum that most are non functional at this point serving no purpose and there is no replacement. I couldn’t find a straight answer in the forums as to whether to plug each end or just install a section of hose. After firing the engine back up I no longer have power at higher rpms feeling like secondaries aren’t kicking in. I have another post where people have offered possible solutions but I am currently wondering to anyone who has a better understanding of the vacuum passages that if replacing this valve with a section of blank hose would effect the workings of the vacuum diaphragm of the secondaries causing them not to engage properly.
