Broke 300,000 miles 3/31

After 25 years, finally broke 300K miles on my 85 GSL-SE. I bought it in 1990 went I was 18 and it had something like 60K miles on it. 20 years later finally broke 300K.

And this is on the original engine with no rebuilds. Now just about every other darn part has been replaced over the years. Of late the problem is more interior parts - on my third set of door locks (got the last new complete set of matching locks in the US according to MazdaTrix), the fuel door opener finally failed a few weeks and I just replaced. Not to mention I finally did a complete upholstery overhaul two years ago with all new leather and carpet.

But the car runs great and I love it. While I look at new cars now and then (and in the spirit of full disclosure I did buy a new Audi back in 1998 which was eventually totaled in an accident), I just can't imagine getting rid of my RX7...

Great job! I bet your apex seals are worn to 5.5mm. May they continue to wear without incident.

I have an 85 GSL-SE here that is the same color as yours but yours appears to be in much better shape externally. I made it to 279K on the original motor before losing an apex seal. Bought the car for 1200 bucks with 179K on it. I figure 100K miles for 1200 bucks isn`t bad! LOL! Dumped in another used motor I bought for 600 with 112K on it & turned 307K on the car just recently. I am thinking that the chassis will rust in 2 before the next motor goes!

Great news! I haven’t seen cars that clean even at 150k, but I live in Michigan …. Other companies should be taking notes.

The GSL-SE is the best rotary engined production car ever made. I've said it before, and I will say it again. In fact, I might go as far as to say that the SE is just flat out one of the most reliable cars you can buy, period. Mine makes my Integra look like a Yugo.
