Well, braking performance is only ever as good as your tyres. This was an (expensive) attempt to stop brake fade. I'm not going widebody, so in a straight line it probably won't stop very much faster than an original brake setup. From 120mph to zero, then back to 120mph, then back to zero, you'll notice the difference :D

Hyper4mance2k 09-14-05 02:24 AM

damn sexy...

Paradox 09-14-05 02:55 AM

brake fade? from my experience the stock brakes on FB's suck in general. i recently put on new pads, changed fluid and had the discs milled which helped a lot... still compared to other sports cars ive driven or owned the FB is a damn weak braking machine.

dirty86 09-14-05 09:02 AM

best breaking car i have ever had was a protege, my neck has never been the same since i pressed the break in that car, its almost to good

skrewloose78 09-14-05 09:46 AM

what size wheel are required to fit around those?
how much did that cost and where did you source all the parts?

dantheman 09-14-05 09:57 AM

Very nice.

Just a simple refresh on the brake system helped a ton for me.

New rotors and Hawk pads make it stop one hell of alot faster.

DJAngelicon 09-14-05 10:20 AM

How much did the Wilwood 310mm cost you and where did you get them? It looks nice on your car.

dj55b 09-14-05 01:12 PM

you guys don't know braking till you take out an audi .... i took out the s4 yesterday for a sping the thing has 13" front brake calipers and 11" rear ... and its a dual stage braking system, i looked at the caliper and i was like ... you know that front rotor is just as big as my wheels on my rx-7? lol

I've been told I might be able to find a 16" rim that will clear, but most likely I'll need to go 17".

US$2200-ish all inclusive. I used a race tuning company in NZ to do all the fabrication and machining, and the components were ordered directly from Wilwood in California.

Thats INSANE!!!!! I would NEVER pay that much for brakes on a road car. Now you gotta get new wheels and rubber too, at probably another $3000 depending on what you get. There are other cheaper ways to get similar performance.

jayroc 09-14-05 05:35 PM

What's the weight difference between the two?

z-beater 09-14-05 05:39 PM

So if you have 2200 in the brakes what do you have/are going to hav into the engine?

Ok firstly, the US$ has been crap lately - roll back a couple of years and adjusting the exchange rate, it's more like US$1600.

The wheels and tyres probably won't cost more than US$1500. I'm not interested in cheap ways to get similar performance, I've already spent US$30k on this car, why would I want to cut costs when it comes to brakes?

Minimal, the RX units were cast iron, and these are steel. Even though they're a lot bigger, the material is lighter so it all balances out. I'd be suprised if there was any more than a couple of pounds difference per side.

Just curious why did you fab your own kit? What didn’t you like about the 7’s only kit?

Anyway, Welcome to the big brake club!

Those look nice man :)

I wanted to deal with a company based in my own country, to preserve consumer rights etc. I'm using a S4 (TII) master cylinder and booster with aftermarket bias valve, standard hard and soft brake lines.

Directfreak 09-14-05 06:39 PM

Very Nice. How about some pics of the car?

Let us know what you end up doing for the Master.
Oh, and that T-78 will not get you 550 rwhp at 15 psi at 7000 RPM.

You're gonna need more boost than that. But it's do-able.

EDIT:

I just realized you posted Flywheel HP. Then the odds are pretty good.
