It is most likely related to the Brake hydraulics, check if there is any fluid in the brake master cylinder and check if you can find any leaks.

Sounds to me like you have air in the brake hydraulic system. I would first make sure that there are no leaks and then bleed them.

When the engines off and you pump the breaks they get sorta stiff but loose pressure after 10 sec or so.

When the engine is on its just straight to the floor soft.. the break fluid container has fluid in it.

Would a vacuum leak cause this? Where should I check for the leak?

Check for leaks at the flexible line ends, the proportioning valve, and MC.

Its most likely water and air in your lines though. Just bleed your your brakes and its likely to fix the problem. I bought a $7 air/fluid pump at walmart that served quite nicely as a vacuum bleeder.

I had the same problem on my 12A and after I flushed the system and changed the pads I figured out it was actually only one tire that was stopping the car oops, had to replace the master cylinder to fix it, so definetely try bleading them first, you can never bleed them too much
